Navidrive RT4 8.31 update, no sound, Mirascripts
Navidrive RT4 8.31 update problem, no sound, Mirascripts
Greetings all, new member here,
My name is Mel, I live in Somerset and have a 2008 C5 (X7) Exclusive Tourer, 2.2 Hdi, 173BHP. I have been browsing the forum for some time and resolved various issues successfully so thanks to all the knowledgeable posters who have unknowingly assisted me. This time my searches have not revealed a solution so I am hoping to get some advice.
Some time ago my RT3ev (aka RT4) Navidrive unit stopped working, just showing the message “Please insert upgrade cd”. I purchased an 8.31 upgrade CD and new map discs and with assistance from a knowledgeable friend the upgrade to 8.31 and new maps was successful(ish). The RT4 unit and screen appeared to work perfectly, I could see the track titles playing on the radio, cd and jukebox, I could see the navigation maps and the rear parking sensor display (not front) but I could get no sound from the unit at all. When I turned the volume knob the on screen graphics responded accordingly, but no sound.
My problem appears to be the same as that posted by Scorchy on the C5 Forum back in 2013 so it’s likely that others have experienced it too.
http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/ci ... -recovery/
After the 8.31 update I have no sound, sat nav display between speedo and rev counter just says “Unmapped Zone”, steering wheel list button not functioning. The front 12v cigarette lighter socket is also disabled which happened at the same time but may be coincidental. Scorchy said he altered settings using Mirascripts (but also mentions Lexia) and recovered the sound. I downloaded Mirascripts, burned the files to CD and gave that a try. This worked to some extent as I managed to enable the front sensors again but couldn’t get the sound back. I don’t think my RT4 unit has a separate power amplifier but I tried enabling and disabling that option using Mirascripts but no joy. I also set the CD changer setting to 0 but no other settings appear to be relevant to getting the audio working. The main unit is obviously working and as far as I can tell these units do not have separate power amps so this is not a simple blown fuse. It’s very much a case of so near and yet so far.
I have put up with silent travel for some time now as I didn’t have time to keep trying out different settings. I don’t mind the silence but this means I can’t drown out the X7’s excessive tyre noise but that’s another story! I have now retired so time is on my side and I am going to give it another go. Taking it to a Citroen specialist is not an option as the cost of repairs is disproportionate to the value of a 10 year old 140,000 mile car.
Has anyone used Mirascripts and got their audio working again? If so, how did you do it? Can these settings be adjusted more successfully using a Lexia rather than Mirascripts? Is so, is there an individual or a trusted technician anywhere in the Somerset/ Bristol area that has a Lexia and can assist? Finally, does anyone have any other ideas?
Many Thanks
Mel

Re: Navidrive RT4 8.31 update, no sound, Mirascripts
Hi Mel
Several possibilities:
Whenever there is a major firmware upgrade (which the 8.31 is) there are generally residual issues that need resolving. Most of these should be done using Diagbox. Specifically, the Head unit configuration needs to exactly match the car options (don't experiment as this can cause problems not cure them if the wrong parameters are set for a vehicle that does not support the option). Remember these BSIs are also used in Peugeot and DS vehicles and the information is displayed and handled differently, which is why certain options must not be changed.
Going back to Diagbox, the configuration prarameters must be gone through to check they are correct.
If you post up your VIN (it will be automatically masked), I will check what kit you have and from this I can specify the correct configuration options for your car. You can at least check them yourself.
As for Mirascripts, these were written by a chap for the RT* systems to directly changes certain parameters, but are unsupported here, so if you wish to use those, be aware of the potential dangers and of compounding any issues you might have. I can only provide you with the ECU parameters for the RT4 unit with a recommendation for the correct settings for your vehicle.

Re: Navidrive RT4 8.31 update, no sound, Mirascripts
Ok, so you have the RT4 (RT5 actually - if your system software begins with '8')
You do in fact have the factory fitted Hi Fi amplifier option too, which is a multiplexed CAN amplifier system made by Philips.
In order to perform the ECU parameter checks and / or configurations, you will need the Lexia VCI interface with Diagbox software and a suitable laptop. Can you confirm you have all this before I post up the configuration info as there is a fair bit. If you don't have the kit, and if you have checked on the members list with kit on the forum willing to help on the link below:
Lexia Owner Link
... then you could always book in to the main dealer and ask them to do this for you (they would charge for diagnostic time). Let me know either way.

Re: Navidrive RT4 8.31 update, no sound, Mirascripts
Thanks again Marc,
I have been in touch with a member who is willing to help. If you can post the configuration info that would be great.
You say there is a separate Philips amplifier and I have seen a Philips sub-woofer behind a panel in the boot which probably confirms that. Do you know where the power amp may be located? If its accessible I can have a look to see if there is any sign of power to it. There are no thick audio cables out of the head unit and the thin speaker cables appear to be connected directly from the head unit but it could be that CAN systems don't have heavy pre to power audio cables like I was expecting.
Cheers
Mel

Re: Navidrive RT4 8.31 update, no sound, Mirascripts
The amp is hidden behind the dash, and does not have boy racer sized telegraph cables! There are upgraded speakers, a sub in the boot as you have found and it is a fully compatible CAN based amp for PSA systems.
On left hand drive vehicles it is fitted behind the passenger (right hand side) glovebox. I can’t verify location on RHD, but may be similar just reserved.
I wouldn't do anything yet about checking physical connections as it is likely to be configuration related after the firmware upgrade.
I will locate and put up the relevant parameters for you to check shortly, but I have to go through your options line by line and remove the entries that are not applicable, leaving the correct values only for your specific car.

Ok, so don't forget to read the advisory section on using Diagbox first of all:
Diagbox Warning
Important! The options in the tables below are in relation to the telematic unit ONLY - they do not relate to options on the car generally.
For example, in the case of the 'Air Conditioning' setting below, this must be set to 'No Air Conditioning'. This does not mean your car has no air conditioning, it means that the specific information is not displayed on the RT5! This is exactly as it must be configured.
If you change anything other than what I have entered here, the data networks will throw a wobbly. I have gone through the correct parameters according to your factory fitted options, as per your VIN.
Configuration of The Customer Options
Display Options
Configuration of the Personalisation Menu
Configuration of the Jukebox
Diagbox Warning
- After you have connected Diagbox, selected the Citroen, and the Model (C5 X7) and the VIN has been recognised, go to Fault Finding and run a 'Global Test'.
- Once all the ECUs have been diagnosed, it will return you to the main list.
- Go down the list until you find the 'Telematics' ECU and select this.
- From there, you should be presented with several grey menu options.
- Choose 'REPAIR',
- Then 'CONFIGURATION'
- Then 'MANUAL CONFIGURATION'
- Then 'CONFIGURATION OF THE TELEMATIC UNIT'
From the Corresponding menu option, select each one in turn and ensure the configuration matches the options I have posted below for each:

Re: Navidrive RT4 8.31 update, no sound, Mirascripts
Thanks Marc,
Your comments are spot on too, I would have questioned the selection of no air con when I know that car has it. It defies logic until you limit your thinking to just what the RT4/5 unit is required to display or control. I will just set the parameters as given and see what happens. It will be at least a week before I can get this done so I will probably go quiet for a while.
Much appreciated
Mel

Marc - is it possible to email the settings for my C5 X7 as I had to flash the RT4. VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I am not sure if anything else outside the telematics unit has changed - haven't noticed any unusual behaviour.

Are you able to export the complete configuration as I am sure it come handy at some point (only if its something that can be done with one click and doesn't take much of your time)?
Nik
PS Interestingly I could not see some of the settings in Diagbox (I think one was number of antennae) in my car or Mel's X7.

Re: Navidrive RT4 8.31 update, no sound, Mirascripts
The info can be accessed in several places, but easiest for this parameter is after you do a global test, go into the Head Unit ECU (you should be able to work it out from the symbols next to the ECUs listed) and into configuration, manual configuration. It should be there. I don't have this in an easily accessible format, which is why I type it out on the Forum manually.

I meant the configuration for the other ECU's (engine, suspension etc)
Checked the settings for Telematics and they were correct. Interestingly Mel's X7 displayed more information on the screen (mpg, etc) which I cannot see in my screen. Could it be a different screen resolution (low vs high). Navidrive version 8.31 in both cars.
