Comms 2000 Problems
I have a lot of odd issues with lights on my dash. low fuel light comes on with the handbrake, door open light only goes out when seat belt is plugged in etc. Today I had to go out early in the fog, When I put the fog lights on the power steering fault light comes on as well. The battery was checked 12.8 volts with the engine off and 14.4 volts running the mechanic said the battery is good.
When I got the car it needed a new set of steering column switches which I bought s/h on ebay. The seller had cut the airbag cable so it was useless so I transferred over the stalks on to mine. Could it be the unit it' self that is faulty? Nobody near me has Lexia and the dealer wants €80.00 plus vat and for me to leave the car all day he is 30 miles away so not practical or cost effective.
Long intro to my question could the unit that the stalks attach to be causing this?

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
The comms unit in the steering wheel is very specific to each vehicle. There are literally hundreds of these made to suit the different options and equipment and models and electrical architecture on the car.
Any problems with these units will affect lights possibly indicators will cause electrical faults because they are linked directly to the BSI sending and receiving information.
But I strongly suggest you do get a diagnostic done before replacing with another module. Secondhand comms units that are reconditioned or brand-new or available from suppliers, but you are still looking at at least 100 quid for a reconditioned unit.

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
Hi Marc, I'm thinking I should buy the lexia interface. Dealer will be over €100 for the scan plus a cab home and a cab back again In Ireland that's going to be expensive. I got the same part number on the unit I bought and I only used the stalks so the original gubbins are still there. I checked the earths on the gearbox and apparently the alternator and battery are working properly. Would the diagnostic scan that will cost about €250 on a €500 car show up the issue?

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
Economics seems to be in favour of buying a Lexia, especially if you have a suitable laptop to put it on.
Then you have it for future use for any other problems that might (will) crop up.

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
Yeah I agree with Steve, you have to think of it as an investment. Don’t forget it will diagnose Peugeot, Citroen and DS vehicles. As for what it will show up concerning your current issue, that’s something we can’t answer obviously as we don’t know what the issue is. The comms unit is referred to as the control module under the steering wheel, so will be able to report issues with it, but like anything can only be used as a guide to troubleshooting problems.

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
Make completely certain to get a Lexia with the full chipset. I personally got myself a Lexia clone from Easy Diagnostics a few years ago, and it was well worth the money (even though it is over twice the price of some ebay equipment), as it is a full chipset unit, with good aftercare and support. Easy Diagnostics have a discount procedure for all forum members;

Has anyone ever used this? It's interesting. I have found a Polish guy that has Lexia he will scan for beer money but I want my own now.

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
Those units do not have the capability of a Lexia. They are complimentary for lite jobs not full diagnostics.

I wondered if that was so but the write up for it by the seller suggests that it does all the Lexia does.

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
They would say that. I’ve read up on some other forums where they are not as good as a Diagbox and a Lexia 3.

I agree with what Marc says. If you are going to use a diagnostics tool on a regular basis get the one that does the job properly.

Re: Comms 2000 Problems
At the minute the Polish guy seems like my best bet! Buying Lexia and a Windows 7 laptop will cost around £200, I reckon, that's more than I can afford right now. That bluetooth device is appealing but 6-8 weeks delivery to Ireland sucks and if it turned out to be little more than a basic scanner (that I already have) I'd be no further forward. One of the sellers reckons it would work with wine and thats generally not the case.

There is a forum member, Sparksie, who has a Lexia clone, and is based somewhere in the Republic of Ireland. It might be worth giving him a PM, to see if he is close enough to you to maybe arrange to meet up and check your car out. Failing that, here is the link to forum members who have Lexia clones and are willing (if they are still active) to help other forum members;

Thank you I have sent him a message. The members with Lexia on the map haven't been active for some time.
