Fault code p0420

Guys the wife's car has just pinged the above code. 208 on a 63 plate 1.2 petrol. Any clues?

I sometimes consult this page scroll down past the "Cost of diagnosing the P0420 code" and there is a decent description of the code/causes/remedies.

With the condition that there may be a Peugeot specific description for this code I am unaware of, and others on here have much more knowledge than me on these matters, this gives a good description of the generic code.

As it says the code may be thrown up by many different causes, and replacement of a particular component may not solve the "problem" if the underlying cause is not addressed.

Graham there were several engine variants for the 208 1.2, so I would need the VIN or the Reg to provide a relevant explanation of the fault code - third party generic explanations are not 100% accurate.

However on looking at both the Bosch and the Valeo setups, this fault indicated that the Catalytic converter is becoming ineffective. The light will may go off when the engine continues to run, or when the ignition is switched off and the engine is restarted or when the ECU goes to sleep after a period of engine not running. If it keeps coming on more frequently then likely time to be looking at changing the catalytic converter.

Hi guys. Wife has a 208 1.2 petrol. On motorways she gets engine management light on and code 0420.catalyst.is this an expensive repair?

May or may not be what is wrong with yours, but it shows the advantage of getting some live data to see what is going on.

Anyone know the price of the front manifold cat part

Citroen replacement part number: 1706Y5. Brand new OEM is £1145.72 inc. VAT
or they do an equivalent, part number: 1612916180 at £800.54

Item 10 which is shown with the heat shield on of course. Normally you would also replace the fitting clamps at the same time.

Here's an example one from BM Catalysts on the Bay - not sure of the quality, but at least you can search on the part numbers now.
