The relase bearing guide also pushes the bearing in..
Massive spanner lol
Box back in.. no issues, with the crane and trolley jack in unison.. driveshafts stopped play as they always do. Back to them to tomorrow eve.. another long day working on cars..

wasn't a bad job in the end.. will finish off over the coming evenings..
just the silly struts.. it cant be hard to make the tools to hold them in 'load mode' as that is the best way to do the job I think.. have you seen them before? I suspect they are just high tensile tent peg shaped things..

You could try jacking the strut up under the disc using a scissor or bottle jack. I tried it with a trolley jack but that was no good as it pulled the bottom of the strut out - in the end on the 307 I just took the two bolts out of the bottom of the strut and lifted the hub up. Doesn't look that easy on the 206 though....

thanks Richard .. worth a try!
tried trolley jack in the past.. problem is that you need to move the strut around to place it over the ball joint post.. I will go for spring compressors and try for 20mm of lift or so, not a lot needed.. but the strut just needs to be moveable.. as well as compressed..you get a lot of lift on the drop link base, but a very sudden bang as the strut goes west under tension

Been there with the struts... Can you not use normal spring compressors on them to achieve the result?

those 2 pests are back in ..
not that bad as long as you wind the compressors for ages, and use spacers, (I had two different length spark plug box spanners, both within large washers..
what is just as annoying, is trying to replace the silly lower outer joint boots, while the strut is hanging in the way.. while fingers are covered in grease - maddening silly little job !
should be done tomorrow to test.. slight concern over the speedo drive but not sure how else it could have gone together.. plastic drive is still free after bolting the housing on, so hopefully will be ok..

finally almost there tonight.. car ran with it's new crank sensor! no odd noises..speedo worked thank goodness.. gears all there.. she's dragging, which is the only issue so far, think the clutch needs a little bleed... it does have a nipple thank goodness.. not sure where the reservoir is? must be quite well hidden under the windscreen scuttle somewhere..

Looks to be shared brake / clutch reservoir. Shouldn't need bleeding if you didn't lose the piston or any fluid, but I suppose if it overextended when the release bearing let go it could need it. Sure you got the driven plate in the right way round....???

I thought a shared res tonight Richard ! thanks.. I couldn't work out how it could share if the pedal had a master cylinder, but 95% the pipe went to the brake res..
I also though it had (had to) over extend.. when I removed it from the release arm area.. it had nothing to stop it extending really..
driven plate right way around the numbers and letters facing out, the long german word meaning (face transmission) faced the tranny .. although I got 3 more grey hairs then ! so thanks again !
the dust cover did come off, and there was some residual fluid in there..
will bleed tomorrow..

clutch all fine chaps.. I haven't driven car much recently, but it feels pretty much as good as new..
there is still a nasty jolt/engine move on the change, so I guess the rear central mount is gone.. will worry about that some other time..
bleeding was needed.. I had a vacuum bleeder (bought for the VFR**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]'s tricky brake system) so managed to sort that out by myself..
one thing I have never noticed before, and could do with some pointer on.. if you are driving along and press the clutch the car stalls.. I thought the rubbish battery condition was causing it, but I don't think so.. also if you blip the throttle you get a hesitation (think carb cars without the air filter connected) - I am sure this is connected.. basically the revs drop really low and then pick up to normal, after a burst of power... canb anyone give me the obvious things to check.. I guess a blocked AF could cause it, although the car doesn't start with the AF disconnected! petrols eh? been a while

scrub that .. I think the idle problem has always been there (its not my car :O ) and the battery was too flat to support the 250 rpms that the idle goes down to ...
so. it has all the hall marks of an old 2 stroke running low on fuel.. revs all over the place ..
I guess the ICV is a suspect? is that valve able to be checked by a lexia? or just a swap out part... has it even got one
I will get to the bottom of it.. but I will leave it alone for now, I need a break !! been a busy few months ....

Idle on a 206 is always a game... If you have a Pug Planet try resetting the ECU and retraining the ICV.. I used to have to do it on Robyn's old 206 on a regular basis...
