Tyre Sizes? Citroen S1 1.9TD

Post by Rhothgar »

Evening Chaps,

I was going to order some new tyres and realised I don’t know what size I need.

I’ve chopped and changed the wheels on the S1 a few times over the years and now I can’t remember what size they should have.

It currently has 185/65 R15 fitted but I could swear th fronts are catching on full lock. I don’t particularly want to get under it in this weather. I just want to order tyres and get them on.

The sticker on the door shut says 185/65 R14 MXV3 which was presumably original figment.

For the life of me, I cannot find any 14” rims and I’ve never sold any!

Has anyone got 185/65 R15’s fitted and are not having any issues on full lock?

If you can post your VIN, we can take a look and hopefully see what was originally factory fitted.

Yup! 185/65 R14 according to service.citroen.com

This now poses a serious issue. Where have my 14" rims vanished?

I'd therefore be grateful if anyone can clarify they are using 185/65 R15's successfully.

Alternatively, I could fit 175/65 R15 or even 175/60 R15 and hope there is enough clearance though I'd rather not mess around with manufacturer's intended specification too much!

The offset of the wheels you are currently using must be wrong. My s2 1.9td has 15" wheels as standard and 185/60X15 with no problems, but has 215/45X17 on with no problems. I would think 185/60X15 should be ok, the slightly lower profile compared to the 65 that you have currently will certainly help.

Sorry rothgear I just gave wrong information. Although the car is in a lockup the standard wheels are here. It had 185/65X15 as standard. The offset of the wheels are ET18 this is stamped on the wheel
A34C1BE7-52D0-4A43-AF16-2F6A338CF617.jpeg
You won’t be able to see the writing on my wheel but it is where my finger is. Pull off a wheel trim and see if you have that on your wheels. It’s near enough in line with the tyre valve. If you haven’t got that on your wheels I will show you another way to calculate tha offset. If your number is say 25 then your wheels are too far in by 7mm and probably will scrape and will need spacers. You could have wheels off a different car, which even though the bolt pattern and centre hole are correct the offset could be different. I’m fussy with all this stuff and studied it in great detail! Ask Chris 😂

Hi Chris

Well interestingly the picture of your wheel matches the design of the 15" ones I have. They have 10 circular holes around the perimeter.

Now! When I bought these wheels with the all-season tyres on from a chap down sarf I only have the 2.0HDi running and they were fitted to that so as that normally has 205/60 R15 it didn't present a problem.

I bought the green S1 in 2013 and I could SWEAR that I've had the all-season on it but wouldn't actually want to bet on it.

I'll nip outside and see if I can see anything.

Can't see any markings on them. There is a bolt hole directly in line with the tyre valve.

Yes, i have a bolt hole directly in line with the valve too. If the valve is at 12 oclock the et is stamped in at about 3 to 4 minutes past. I have 4 wheels here and can only make it out one one of the wheels. Tomorrow I shall put a straight edge across the wheel and measure the distance to the surface of the bolt holes. This will give a near enough comparasion of the offset. I have a wheel without a tyre on it so it will ne easy, it will be a bit more difficult with a tyre on, but I will work something out so you can get a comparison.

I happen to have a bicycle wheel dishing gauge so even with tyres on I’ll also be able to measure accurately.

It just then depends if all steel wheels for Peugeot and Citroen were 5.5J? Not so easy to measure.

That would be on 6J rims.

OK. Well I've managed to check all rims today out of a couple of sets I have and they are marked ET15?

Mine may well say ET15, its very difficult to see. I would think your wheels are the exact same as mine then, and are the standard wheels for the s2 1.9 td
