C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
The outside temperature sensor on my 2010 stopped working I have bought a replacement unit and a new drivers side mirror glass in case of disaster when removing old glass.
Having removed the glass and the coloured mirror back plate still can not see how to remove/replace the sensor !
Cant even see the unit apart from the "nipple" protruding from mirror underside.
Has anyone ever replaced this item on a C4 Picasso ?
Many thanks for any suggestions.

Re: C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
I can't say about the Picasso but the C5 one is just pushed into a plastic slot, if you have the back cover off pushing the 'pimple' up will release it then it's a matter of cutting the wires and re-soldering them into the existing wires, the original wiring is clipped in and routed too much to get out easily.
There's a picture of my broken one in another thread '807 outside temp sensor'

Re: C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
Ok, so I'll need your VIN as this is a different setup entirely on a C4 Picasso from a C5.Tourer-1950 wrote: ↑21 Jan 2019, 20:45 The outside temperature sensor on my 2010 stopped working I have bought a replacement unit and a new drivers side mirror glass in case of disaster when removing old glass.

The Sensor is in the Driver side Mirror (Right Hand Side), however, subject to VIN confirmation of the exact model, the sensor has to be cut at a specific location and re-joined as it is part of the complete electrical harness that powers the other operations of the mirror - again depending on trim level and options.
Once I have your VIN I'll be able to get you a disassembly guide up.

Re: C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
The external temperature sensor is a lot more involved as I thought. The mirror has to be removed, which involves taking the door card off and all the switches to get to the mirror mountings.
The temperature sensor is part of a wiring harness - no separate plug I'm afraid, so the new one has to be spliced to the harness when fitting.
I thought I'd advise you first, but if you still want to attempt it, let me know as It is a fair bit to post up.

Thanks for your reply.
Not a problem removing door card armed with some replacement trim fixing ! done that job before to replace central locking actuator.
But what`s puzzling me even if I remove the mirror completely how do you remove the sensor as mentioned in my original post with the glass and coloured back cover removed can not see this unit ! And splicing the wires is not a problem with solder joint butt connectors.

Re: C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
Ok, there does seem to be some confusion as to the location of the damned sensor on this model - as parts list this as available on both right and left hand mirrors - which I have to assume is dependent upon whether you have a right or left hand drive vehicle. In the technical notes it refers to the sensor as being on the passenger side. As these are typically written from the European side - they generally work with LHD vehicles. That would indicate it being on the passenger side for a left hand drive.
So it is entirely possible it is on the left hand side for a right hand drive vehicle.... Double check the passenger side for a dimple.
But this is what it should look like as you will know as you have the replacement already:
Now it must be on one of them as the nipple can always be seen from the underside - it's no good if the sensor doesn't protrude out of the casing or it won't be able to do its job.

Yes that's what the replacement part looks like and I can confirm the "nipple" protrudes from below the offside driver's mirror.
Many thanks for your response.

Here's the guide - which contains some extracts from the door disassembly to get the mirror off - I believe I've excluded any non-relevant operations from that - but if you get stuck let me know.

Re: C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
I finally had some spare time yesterday so got around to dismantling the o/s mirror to replace the sensor.
Following the illustrated guide you supplied the rear exterior shell (item 5) was removed carefully and bingo ! the sensor was there to remove.
Fitted replacement unit using solder type butt connectors which are already heat shrink wrapped there is plenty of room in the mirror shell I just shortened the new cable by a couple of centimetres.
But sad to report still no temperature readings.
The whole job including putting away tools, extension lead ,hot air gun etc. only took about 45 minutes because I only had to remove the rear shell of the mirror not the glass or motor etc.
Once again many thanks and I will update you when the job is tackled again.

Re: C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
After all that, what a let down! Was it a genuine sensor or a copy do you know - copies of these, just like parking sensors are very hit and miss and often DOA. If not that, I would re-check wiring connections too.

Re: C4 Picasso outside temperature sensor
Sorry not been in touch I did remove the sensor again but the wiring snapped somewhere down inside the door and after removing the door card again gave up because of shortage of time I couldn't see how to get at the multi pin plug that needs disconnecting. As stated a while ago my daughter got married on 20th April all went well apart from my father in law passing away on Tuesday 16th April ! Will contact you when I get some time.
