Hello, sorry about the multiple threads!
I have purchased a replacement 12v socket as mine appears to be burnt out. Do I have the remove the surround to get the old one out or is it simpler?
I imagine the orange surround is just there for looks- or is there a bulb that should be working?

Is this an original?
The socket that the Cigar lighter or accessory goes into is accessed after removing the central console as in the diagram. There are 3 bolts, 2 under the cover (3) and one at the rear (9).
Remove:

Remove:
- The rear cover ( 8)
- The nut (9)
- The handbrake trim (6)
- The gear lever gaiter (5)
- The front cover (3)
- The bolts (1)
- The cigar lighter ( 2)
- The window winder buttons (4)
- Remove the central console (7).

What seems to be the problem?
If you bought a replacement, you just need to unclip the black plug from the amber lighting plastic and replace with the new parts.
I'm assuming you have bought a proper OEM replacement and not a generic one? You should have these parts:
