As for the headlining noise issue, turns out it was the aerial base with a heath robinson fix, new base fitted and all is well.xantia_v6 wrote: ↑26 Nov 2018, 22:02 Is it just the headlining cloth loose, or the fibreboard backing?
The backing is loose, the headlining itself is fine
The Xantia brake pedal always sits low, but does not have much travel. You can always adjust the height while doing the brake pedal spring modification.
Been a long time since i had a Xantia, the more i drive it the better the pedal feels
Sometimes there is so much rust in the nylon pivot bush of the height corrector cradle that no amount of lubrication will free it up entirely. In that case the (rivetted) pivot must be dismantled, a new pivot pin made.
Just seems unloved, was a little worried at first but daily citrobics and lube seem to be working at the moment

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
I now need to find a supply of Spheres and HydraFlush and LHM+.
I do not know if the spheres still come with new seals but guess i need to get the anti sink seal i need to get from Citroen, cannot remember if it is 3.5 or 4.5mm.
I will be reusing one of the old seals for the anti sink, not needed i know but somewhere i read that it does help in removal later down the road.
I have a very old removal tool but could do with a new one and i do need to get some axle stands, cannot find the old set i had.
Any pointers gladly taken.

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
AEP Direct are a good supplier of spheres. You will need to add the vehicle reg to the notes (otherwise they will contact you, requesting that detail, which will add a delay), and they do come with the square section seals, but the anti-sink sphere does not come with a pipe seal (it will need one, but I cannot recall the size needed). Fitting a square section seal to the anti-sink sphere does make it easier to remove it in the future. Be careful removing the old one, as the bracket is quite flimsy.
It is possible to make a sphere removal tool, if you follow the instructions in the following link;
https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... hp?t=21850
I would also suggest that, every year or so, you go around loosening the spheres by about a 1/4 turn or so, and then doing them back up hand tight only. Doing this will make it easier to remove the spheres when you come to replace them again.

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
Thanks Hell but i cannot find a round lamp post ( check the thread cannot believe it is that old lol) but will try and get a ready made one.
Been thinking about a trolley jack also so any advice on trolley jack and axle stands would be good, so many to choose from and looking at the trolley jack pads with the cross splits in them for normal jacking if that makes sense.

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
I have made a sphere removal tool using that method, and it works well.
If you find that the rear suspension spheres won't come loose you will need a decent masonry chisel and a decent lump hammer (I really am NOT joking). I have had to do this twice (both times on Xantias that I was replacing the spheres for the first time in my ownership). Raise the car to full height, with supports at the back, just in case she drops (but she MUST be taking the weight on her rear wheels). If she is not bearing the weight herself you probably will find that the struts will slowly twist, damaging the LHM pipes. Using the hammer and chisel, knock a divot into the sphere seam, so you then have a purchase point. Once you have a decent enough divot, angle the chisel so that the impact should loosen of the sphere, and keep tapping away. Once it moves by a few degrees you can switch over to the other rear sphere. DON'T, under any circumstance, use this method on the anti-sink sphere; you will destroy the securing bracket.

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
Thanks Hell i remember the aggro of getting the rears to shift, i always used to have it set on high, engine running and axle stands positioned so if i did something stupid i had a do not drop on me in place , always used to get them to turn a quarter of a turn to break the tension.
Anti sink is the 9 mm nut job, if only i could find the spanner i modified all those years ago
The accumulator was always the one i struggled with, so scared the bracket was going to twist, that one i found that if i tried to tighten it a little and then do the undo tighten routine it would come free eventually.
Done a quick shop with AEP and looks like it is going to be about £160 ish for the spheres, just need to ask my local stealers for the anti sink seal.
Will be good to get the tools out and get back into removing the LHM tank and cleaning the filters out, by tools i mean the soft toothbrush and a little bit of petrol
I always used to get the Hydraflush and LHM from GSF so any pointers in that direction would be good, Halfrauds charge a fortune for 1 litre bottles.
Will take this opportunity to plusgas the rear brake bolts and then if i need to change the discs pads all round then i can do that when i change Hydraflush for LHM
Thanks for the tips, but did you use a lamp post for your tool like Xaccers suggested lol

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
Damn i thought Brum had moved on, even the Bullring looks different but round lampposts still
Got everything else sorted spheres/tool/hydraflush but still looking at axle stands, do not want to damage the underside but it is maybe 8 years since i last used them so any help appreciated, only £210 spent so far so not bad going lol

The Xantia brake pedal always sits low, but does not have much travel. You can always adjust the height while doing the brake pedal spring modification.
Sometimes there is so much rust in the nylon pivot bush of the height corrector cradle that no amount of lubrication will free it up entirely. In that case the (rivetted) pivot must be dismantled, a new pivot pin made.
Or! remake them modified with sealed bearings! I've done this on two Xantias now and it gives you better than new height corrector action. In fact I sold on one of my previous Xantias to a chap from Scarborough that had the modified bearing mechanisms 4 years ago - I'd be keen to know if they were still as good.

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
Hi, I might have posted up a few pics - can't recall, I'll maybe have a search. But I made changes to the original solution and now have the improved type fitted to my present Xantia so might post up new guide instead. It's doable but there is a small amount of tig welding needed so that might put off some.

Re: Once Again I Own A Xantia
Hi, yes I did include it here after all.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=54012
It's not great for following DIY style - you'd have to kind of find your own way to do it (possibly better way) but it's there for interest.
This was the first attempt for the modification - I repeated this last year with a bit more detail and care to mod the HC cradles of my current car. I included bearings for the manual height lever part too. I didn't try to correct the mistake I made on the first trial with the original stepped part that gets replaced as it turned out not to be a problem long term.
