C5 Seat Upgrade

Post by Rosian Drashkov »

Hi, I'm new to the forum and couldnt find anywhere what I'm looking for so sory if that is not the right place. So my dad's C5 has cloth manual seats. The driver one is completely shot and the passenger one is slowly dying. So I'm thinking of getting him some nice electric leather seats but my main concern is if they are plug and play to the harness underneath the manual ones or am I gonna have to do some kind of hack job to wire them up. Has anyone tried that upgrade? Again sory if I'm asking on the wrong place or if there is already a topic about this (i couldn't find if there is).

I replaced my C5's cloth seats with leather and it was almost plug 'n play.
I needed to fit a maxi-fuse in the hidden fuse box under the bonnet and needed a Lexia to enable the CD multiplayer under the drivers seat.
Otherwise the seats had full movement and heating right from the start.

There are a number of threads covering fitting them here.

As for mk1 i can second myglaren.

The maxi-fuse is common for electric adjustment and seat heater. If there is neither, there is no fuse. If both exist the fuse should be bigger than when there is only either one.

I fitted electric leather seats to my '01 C5 and yes, the wiring is already present - not so in the Peugeots apparently

Okay thank you for the quick answers! It is an 05 the facelift one. I will have a look if the fuses are present. Also do you guys have an idea on how much aproximately the Citroen dealerships charge for activating certain functions(in this case the electric seats but I also want to activate the rd4 aux input)?

For the price the dealer charges (in the UK - anything up to £90 an hour), it might be cheaper for you to invest that money in a Lexia kit and a cheap laptop and then you can do it yourself?

So after almost a year I finally decided to do it as the driver's seat started giving me lower back pain. I just went to a junkyard where I found a car with mint seats all working and leather was in good condition. I took off the passenger seat on both that car and mine just to see that my car only has two little wiring harnesses coming from the carpet

(the ones I'm holding on the picture)

and the car with electric seats has a lot more wires in the loom. Some of the plugs were completely different from mines and the electric seat has some sockets where I don't have wires to plug into. So is there anything else I can do or I am screwed to only have manual cloth seats?

MK I and MK II (or facelift) are completely different and have different wiring harnesses. I am assuming you have a MK II form your profile. Secondly, the harnesses changed during the build run so will be different. Post your VIN and I'll see what you have originally against what you need.

In my experience the simple method is just swap the air bags in the side of the seat (easy to do) ....then you have the correct plugs.

Mk1/2 Leather C5 sets = the most comfortable seats in any car I have owned (for me)

Do you have the VIN of the donor car? And was the donor car a MK I or MK II?

Your wiring harness for for your MK II Estate is 6509K7 Your build date is 10207 (19 October 2004) and the wiring harnesses changed from build code 10556 (3 October 2005). The intermediate wiring harnesses are also different for Saloon and Estate versions as well as the build dates mentioned before.

I dont have the VIN of the car I was looking at but it was a MK I from 2004 so I thought since it was the same year as mine it would work. But what I'm wondering is do I have all the wires needed to power the electrics and the heater as I showed in the picture I only have two plugs and the seat has three sockets so one stays open all the time. By the way I checked and I already have the 80amp maxi fuse in the fusebox under the bonnet.

Although the seats are mostly the same between MK I and MK II, the wiring harnesses changed and again on the build numbers and again between saloons and estates. So I can't help you with those - but I suspect you may not have the connections for the heated seats.
