Hi,
I need to replace the radiator cooling fan motors on my Citroen Xantia:
Engine Code DHX (XUD9TF/BTF) / D ः (XUD9SE / O)
year: 1996,
- Model type: x18a, TDX ,
- vin: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff],
- My registration is french (so might not be of help): AP-499-VM
ORGA/RP Number:
0 6972 CJ = 11 December 1985 was date of assembly in Factory
Paint code? ERYCR
Homologation
Version 18A
BE: 93/A095
ES: B-2076
There seems to be conflicting advice as to which fan/fan motors are applicable... Is the 'xantia' fan universal to all xantia's? I.e. do all xantia's use the same part?
Oscaro.com (I live in France) seems to think the part number is 1250.F1.
There also seems to be a plethora of fans ranging from cheap to expensive.
Can anyone help?
Part number for Xantia radiator fan motor?

Re: Part number for Xantia radiator fan motor?
We only need the VIN (and for future ref you had an additional 2 in there).
Here is the cooling fan setup on your Xantia - if you can identify the diagram numbers, I can get you the part numbers:
1250F1 is the combined parts in the second diagram on the right - that consist of B + 3 + 17. The price in the UK is £193.80 inc VAT and are still available.

Re: Part number for Xantia radiator fan motor?
It is important that twin fans are both of the same type and wattage, as they have to operate in both series (slow speed) and parallel (fast speed).
You're replacing the pair, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Part number for Xantia radiator fan motor?
Yes, there were 3 or 4 different power ratings for Xantia fans, depending on engine type and target climate. They are all interchangeable as long as you have a matched pair. S1 and S2 fan motors are the same. Be aware that the screw holding the plastic blade to the motor is LEFT HAND THREAD. If replacing the fan without removing the radiators you will need a rather special spanner to reach the mounting nuts.

Re: Part number for Xantia radiator fan motor?
Thank you all for your quick and helpful replies!
GiveMeABreak, What have I got wrong with the VIN (it might account for dealers being mystified - though the number is what is on the plate in the engine bay)?
I believe the assembly number is 1250F1 in your left hand diagram (mine has the reverse screw fixings as opposed to spring clips).
That part number also seems to correlate with Citroen 1253.64 and Nissens 85666?
I have the fans out and both will be replaced. I believe the brushes have gone as the fan motors running speeds and starting are temperamental - the loom contacts are fine and in good condition (tested carefully with a good multimeter) - but a 'strong wiggle' of the contact/brush housing on the motor can induce the motors to start and also speed up. They have done 160,000 km!
With the motors out, I get wildly differing readings ranging from a few ohms to over 1meg ohms when turning the spindle by hand. Again, 'wiggling' the contact housing on the motor causes the multimeter readings to fluctuate considerably!
There seem to be many fans on the market here on mainland Europe. Fans with the same OEM parts numbers seem to have slightly differing fan diameters... I am not sure if I can use the new motors with the original blades...
Regards,

Re: Part number for Xantia radiator fan motor?
To follow on...
Whilst I brought the motors home with me, I am not sure of the fan blades' diameters because I left them with the car at a friends some distance away! Stupid I know. Any ideas as to diameter?
And again, kind regards,

I edited your post to correct the VIN you supplied as it was 18 characters and should of been 17. You had an additional '2' after the '002' the sequence.

Re: Part number for Xantia radiator fan motor?
Hi Marc,
Thank you! I just checked a photo of my vin plate and I must have made a mistake some time ago copying the details!
It does explain some difficulties I have had with parts dealers...
Thank you again!

NO worries - it's actually stamped on the lower left windscreen corner in a little window for future reference (as viewed from outside).
