C4 AC Blower Fixed, but is there a way to add a delay?

Post by Valleriani »

2005 Citroen C4 - I have had an issue with the AC blower fan not working, though the actual AC was on (I.E. I can change the fan through the fan controls/etc). I read online that it is apparently the BSM (under bonnet fusebox) which is fairly costly to replace. The issue was posted here by someone else: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=56694&sid=49c85c9fd ... 4&start=15 I've read other forums that also use a delay/relay too.

Image

Anyways for me, this worked... Tossing a fuse between the two wires just in case. However I've read that people put a 5-10 second delay on this to prevent the fan from starting up faster then it should. Sometimes I do see it myself, but not always. I assume it's a relay to do it, but I am unsure what relay I should get to do so.

I've went to a couple electrical places, and they don't even want to bother without wiring schematics and/or simply didn't know what I was talking about. All I simply want to do it prevent power from the spliced wires from occurring for 5-10 seconds. I do not know the exact name of it is called to purchase it. I know how it generally works so it shouldn't be a problem.

Eventually I'll get the whole fuse system replaced but I don't have the coin for that right now.

Thanks!

I really wouldn't want to start bypassing and circumventing the fuse box, which is there for a reason - we've already had some engine fires as a result of a dodgy fuse box.

Some of these are available for as little as £45 delivered. If you post up your VIN I'll check on the correct part and prices.

But can you explain a little better? - You say the fan is working and that you can use the control panel,
I.E. I can change the fan through the fan controls/etc)
so I'm not sure what you are saying. Either the fan is working or it isn't or is it only working on a certain speed?

I can get the vin later at the moment I don't have the car. I'll PM you it really quick. Would it be overly difficult to do?

The ac fan doesn't work at all at any speed. The screen to change the temp and how fast the ac blows still exists, but no air actually comes out. It's seems to be something to do with a problem with the fuse box though and seems to be an issue. Fuse/etcs are all fine, replaced to test. Works fine with that hack above.

Don't send the VIN by PM as I believe that the automatic masking system the website uses to hide the VIN on public display also hides it in the PM and the Mods can't access the original.

Just post it up here and it will be hidden from public view.

There is another possibility of course - not all these issues are caused by the engine fusebox. It could also be the blower motor control module that has failed.

Once I have your VIN I will show you the relevant part.

Ah nice OK. This could cause what I am experiencing then? (I.E. Going around it with the splice it so it actually works?) Reason why I am asking is because I heard if the this fails it normally only works at highest speed and not just lower speeds, where mine won't work at all unless I use that splice hack above.

It's just another possibility for you to consider - some of these can work on full speed or nothing, others nothing at all - so hard to tell. But I would be wary of bypassing the fusebox to be honest.

Oh that's very cheap actually there.

When you replace the full fusebox what is involved overall? Would it involve alot of messing about (aka taking it to the shop instead) or is it mostly a wire swap job after you get the replacement part?

There is no coding of the engine fuse box, but just make a note of all the wiring connections and take pictures as you go along so you can reconnect everything.

I have to go out now, but when I get back I'll see if there is anything on replacing the unit that I can paste up for you. But in all cases, you must follow the battery disconnection procedure and reconnection when working on anything like this.

I fitted an external (to the box) 30 amp wire ended fuse holder to one of my XM's, probably soldered the leads to the old fuseholder, don't really remember, it was a long time ago. I still have some of the fuseholders though.

" However I've read that people put a 5-10 second delay on this to prevent the fan from starting up faster then it should. "
Remind me again why you wanted to do this.
Was it to achieve a delayed start, or a gentle one?
Just interested, because it is an unusual thing to do.

Just checked back and no special installation instructions - so just be very careful with the connector pins and connections and you should be fine.
