ew7 6fz ( ew7j4 ) engine, 1.8 dohc petrol 03 plate xsara picasso.
Whilst under the car yesterday i noticed a "D" shaped brown plastic form memory area with a yellow inner circle ? in the lower water pump area visible without taking off the bottom cam belt cover, in the area i would expect to find a water pump drain, so as if the water pump leaked coolant it would not get involved with the cam belt ?
Is this so ?
Thanks, great forum by the way, i would be lost without you.

Re: water pump drain
Here's the cooling system info. No mention of a drain plug on the water pump itself.

Re: water pump drain
All water pumps have drain holes, so any coolant that leaks through the seal can drain away without contaminating the bearing.
I can't recall ever seeing one plugged, which would defeat the purpose.
Can you elaborate a bit, or maybe post a pic of the plastic plug?

Re: water pump drain
Will try but if you look at the exploded view, its the sort of round bit between bolt 3 and the cam belt drive pulley for the w/pump. If view from under the car its a "D" shape, but will try and get a picture over next time the car is at mine.
Anyone know the torx size of the stud 4 please ?

Re: water pump drain
I'm not familiar with that pump but maybe it was dripping and someone put a thumb-full of filler in it to stop it.

That being an 8mm stud I believe it will be an E10 torx socket you need...………..unless the French are playing silly buggers again.
