Water pump stud torx size head

Post by picassodad »

Hi, a newbie here......

The haynes manual suggest remove the engine to change the water pump ?? creative or what......

Anyways its cam belt time in 2 weeks and since the water pump is driven by the cam belt, its probably best to replace that as well.

I have not checked yet but the haynes picture looks as if the water pump housing, the part that is fixed to the engine block, and the part the water pump is bolted into, may be grp plastic ?? omg.

Alloy versions seem to be listed on ECP thank god.

Anyways, the top of the housing is nutted to the block, with a removable torx headed stud, at the top.

Please would anyone know the size of the studs torx head size please ??

Hopefully its reasonably easy to remove that stud ( hope its not seized in place or done up by samson, or the giant in astrix stories , cant remember his name ) and it will come out with the housing together, summut tells me it wont come out on its own, then the housing.

All help greatly appreciated.

Ok if you can supply your VIN - then it will save on future requests, as we'll have the right vehicle and options as fitted at factory. VIN will be masked automatically from public view, but staff can see it.

I can't see any instructions for replacing that pump, but it only adds 0.9 hour to time for the cambelt, so it can't be that hard!! There are 2 versions depending on the age, so you will need your VIN to confirm which pump is fitted - the later one has 4 mounting bolts, the earlier one, 2. The stud looks to me M8 so I would guess it's E5 or E6 (E-spline) on the end - you can buy a rack of the sockets for a few quid, then you are covered.
