C5 2.0 hdi 55 reg power steering problem

Post by mark230678 » 28 Sep 2018, 21:02

Have searched and searched on here.
I have a c5 diesel.
Took it out last week 100 miles. Parked overnight and came back to it.
Had fault light and stop.
Power steering faulty.

Thing is the power steering isn't faulty.
It works fine. Suspension works fine.
Breakdown came out. No problems found.
No codes
Told it was ok to drive and has been fine.
Mechanic also had a look. No problems.
No problems starting.
Any offers.

Check the LDS fluid level.

Put the car on flat ground, engine running, put suspension to lowest setting and check LDS fluid levels are between the A and B marks:

It’s contains both the suspension and the power steeering fluid. The systems share the same fluid reservoir. The fluid is called LDS and is exclusively used in the Citroen C5 and C6 hydraulic suspension systems and in the Power Steering systems of many Peugeot and Citroen vehicles.

It looked ok when breakdown checked.
Will check again tomorrow.
No leaks noted.
Suspension works fine up and down on buttons and when loaded.

As I said, check the fluid levels according to my last post. The breakdown companies very probably don’t have the knowledge of how to check these systems correctly for fluid levels.

Sometimes raising the car through all height settings and lowering a few times at standstill is good to keep the hydraulics excercised.

Ok, just keep an eye on things - never overfill the tank - and ensure it's checked on the lowest suspension setting. It may have just been a glitch.

Ok, if the red stop light is on, there should be another warning bulb or message - can you confirm this. Secondly, are you using Lexia / Diagbox to read the codes? There will be a fault code if these warnings are on - but not all these can be read by aftermarket scanners - you need Lexia / Diagbos for a proper diagnosis.

I have to go out now, but will check back later.

Hi. No other warning light. Just the stop light.
Power steering faulty comes up in centre display.
Generic code reader.

If you can get it on a Lexia, it will give you the fault codes, a generic reader won’t cut the mustard with PSA cars.
