C4 VTS - Can not see vehicle outline on screen on reversing

Post by lancia58 »

Hi

Just bought a petrol C4 VTS ( 2.0 16V). When reversing and the vehicle gets close to the obstacle, the sound signal becomes ever more rapid as it should, but the vehicle's outline with the bars is not displayed on the screen. ( It is the small screen not the 7 inch one ) . I know that 6 month ago the car internal ventilation system fan failed and in order to fix it the garage removed the whole dashboard and installed a new venting system , it is a big black box ( the fan is inside the box but it cannot be opened ) . I guess it is somehow related.

Any help is welcome

Thanks

The blower motor has nothing to do with the parking assistance or the screen. If you post your VIN here I can see what you have and check functionality.

Marc,

I know that the fan is not related to the parking assistance or the scree. I thought that when the garage removed the dashboard they may forget to connect some wires or damaged them. The sensors do work since the the parking assistance audio signal is OK but the screen does not show the vehicle outline.

The car VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I've had a look at the info I have and there isn't any mention of the visual diagram only the audible warning - and I don't have a manual that old unfortunately for early 2006 models.

Hi

I have the vehicle's manual and it mentions a visual diagram that is also printed in the manual. Some other thing I noticed is that when setting the volume on the screen all bars are displayed only the volume level ( number ) is changed

Have you changed or reconfigured any parameters using Lexia / Diagbox (however insignificant you might think they are) - for ANY system? Audio / screen / in the BSI for example? This tells me that one fo the ECUs is not configured correctly for this model and / or the options / specification fitted to your car. The BSIs are sometimes fitted to different PSA vehicles with the same electronic architecture.

This means that there will be parameters and settings that MUST NOT be changed for a certain vehicle type - even things like how the outside temperature is displayed and whether certain information is displayed on the dash or not. Some parameters must be set to default configuration parameters as changing them can result in anomalies and corrupt displays.

So as I say this, we need to know if this behaviour has been like this since you bought it, or has changed 'since' you bought it. As an example: It is possible that the previous owner may have changed some parameters or had a different head unit installed requiring some changes that were not set back when the default head unit was reinstalled? You may be none the wiser if the display has always been doing this since you became the owner.

Second - have you installed or added any aftermarket equipment, or undertaken any upgrades of any kind? Installing non-multiplexed / incompatible equipment or accessories can also have an impact on the vehicle systems.

You might also consider undertaking a BSI reset to ensure that all the ECUs are properly reinitialised:
  • Open bonnet and Driver side window.
  • Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition
  • Wait for 5 minutes, then disconnect the vehicle battery negative and wait at least 5 minutes.
  • Do not open any doors or press any switches!
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 3 minutes (still do not open any doors or press any switches or buttons or operate any equipment.).
  • Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.
  • Switch on the ignition only, don’t start vehicle yet and check system's lights come on.
  • With key still in ignition hold lock button on key down for 5 seconds and release.
  • Remove key from ingnition through the window, then operate Central locking several times to lock and unlock the car.
  • Now open door and start the engine and make sure all everything is ok.

Marc,

I bought the car a week ago and didn't do any change. I guess one of the previous owners has changed the head unit . The car make year is 2006 and the head unit make year is 2008. I know that since in 2006 the head unit was none MP3 and the one I that is on my car is MP3 one. I detached the head unit and it have a label on it that is was made in 2008. Regarding the volume bars when I looked closer it looks like it goes from the short to the long one when volume is increased but it can hardly seen since it is black on gray, I mean like all bars are deep gray and turned to black when they changed as the volume changes.

You have an RD4 unit?
I do and I have got graphical assistance on the screen. If your screen pixels work, it's got nothing to do with any cables. There is one cable going into the screen. It could be what Marc hinted - BSI is set to screen A, not screen C, which you have.

I have had two C4 VTSs from 2005 and one from 2007, all of them were fitted with the MP3 HU, but not all of them said it on the front panel.

All other function of screen C do work , anyway I'll hook tomorrow a Lexia and see what screen the BSI is configure to .

I consider to upgrade the screen C to RD4 unit , do you know what parts should I collect to do that ( but the head unit, LCD screen and its frame ) , I guess mainly what is the cat numbers of the harnesses and harness routing diagram

Just a thought, and it may NOT help.

Forum member Michel has just taken ownership of a Skoda Octavia Elegance (I know it is not a Citroen, but please bear with me). Although it has reversing sensors (that work) it was not displaying the information. Now, I had, in the past, a similar specced, and I was sure that mine DID display that information. We went into the radio system menu (as the radio display does so much more), and found, in the 'display' section, PDC was set to OFF. Not knowing what it was (and not having the relevant handbooks) we decided to see what happened when we switched that on. Michel then started reversing, and at the same time as the beeping started the display switched to show the reversing sensor output.

That would suggest it has been manually changed from the default by somebody previously.
