Not sure Ellis. I linked to it higher up ..

the car is quite sporty in 4th at 3500 rpm !
Once it gets over 4k I have to force a change ..it's not in keeping with an x7 ;)

Well I can't say I've heard of the manufacturer but it does appear to be specifically for that gearbox which is good.

Good luck on the job!

Ok chaps.. car is on ramps and on high ..car is sloping
Undid the only obvious fill plug in the top (front right of box top) T55

Undid the smaller t40 drain plug underneath.

1 litre came out.. have put same back in

Laptop not switching on..does it matter today that I can't reset counter ?

New oil is red .old was black gold colour

Just had a thought ..after removing lower internal drain should I have removed the larger external 17 mm Allen drain to get more out?

John, did you see my post on the official procedure here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=58731&hilit=AM6&start=15#p553039
You should get 3 lt out per change. It should be done on the flat too and at the correct temp. The oil counter reset is important so that the ECU can alter its driving dynamics to account for new oil - but if you are staggering 3 changes over say a month (depending on mileage of course) in order to get as near a complete oil change as you can, then certainly do the Counter reset at the last change.

Yes as Marc says you needed to drain as much oil as possible out by undoing both drain plugs.

My oil was also black but I didn't notice any gold particles? Are these metal shavings or something?

hi all sorry just got into a flap yesterday - all makes sense now!
I didn't realise the larger drain had that internal pipe fitted :)

so. i drained a litre, refilled. drove about 5 miles and drained again (properly) and refilled.. I used scales to weigh the oil but either way I had 6l of new oil and now have 2 left.. :)

A very easy job, wish I had done it when I got the car!. reset the counter anyway and will see how things go.

First impressions suggest no difference, the whining in 6th is still there, the changes for 4th and 5th are still all over the shop.. bnut the juddering in 3rd seems! to have gone.. if that alone is cured I will be very happy.. normal commute tomorrow.

ED, sorry oil was black, redish when coming out, but when I dipped a screwdriver in, it looked a gold colour against the metal, no flakes just some sort of illusion.

thanks for all help.

It’ll take a while for the autoadaptives to adjust John so give it a while to see if it improves, but certainly won’t of done any harm with an oil change.

Good job on getting the oil change done Jgra. I'll be doing mine soon however still having suspension issues. To sort the rear droop I put car on ramps and tweaked the clamp around the torsion bar to adjust the rear height sensor and after some messing about managed to get the car level again. However after a few weeks of driving it has now raised the back end up! Strangely by the same amount it had originally dropped by but in the opposite direction?? Car looks like a chavvy 80s boy racer! Fluffy dice anyone?-haha.
No corrosion on the dog bone or connections and lots of wd40 applied over several days so I think I need to change the sensor. Question is the rear sensor the same as the front as I can only find front ones on sale on fleabay at the moment. My citroen.doc is still not working so could someone ping me a part number please :-)
Any advice is most gratefully appreciated

Yes Gino, they are completely different.

For your X7 you need:
5273J9 for the rear body height sensor £60.06 inc. VAT
5273J4 for the front body height sensor £54.40 inc. VAT

That is just for the sensors and excludes the dog bone angular pick ups or the clamps.

I've also been looking about and the Citroen dealers are the only place that have both height sensors so I'll be buying a front and a rear height corrector before Christmas.

Whilst the rear height sensor seems reasonably easy to change, I believe the front subframe needs lowering in order to access the front height corrector which is a bit concerning. I'm hoping that is just the 'official procedure' being a bit over zealous as it tends to be.
