Is the 2.0 a less troublesome engine or do both have their niggles and quirks?
I have to say, as much as you gents have been so helpful and given me loads of advice, it has really put me off getting another PSA vehicle. The problem I have is, Berlingo/Transit Connect/Vauxhall Combo, are all too small, whereas Traffic/Vivaro?Transit,are all too big, and there is nothing in between other than Dispatch/Expert,or Toyota Proace

I have a 2.0 HDi which has done >226,000 miles and is not troublesome in the least.
It was very sluggish when I bought it but cleaning the pipes and re-tensioning the throttle cable fixed that.
Injectors cleaned, one refurbished when I bought it at 180,000 miles.
A replacement MAF a couple of years later and the MAF cleaned a couple of years ago.

One or two faults have cropped up but nothing engine related

As an aside, I was in my mechanics yesterday having new tyres fitted and they were working on a C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi and were very unimpressed with it, particularly the turbo arrangement and the stupidly long service interval.

Just realised Steve, you are probably the nearest member to me, I'm just across the Tyne from you at Throckley..As for 2.0 if one comes up local that is decent and within budget, what do I need to look for,? Other than the faults I have experienced with the 1.6, here is a list of what I have had trouble with since purchaes on 6/4/18

6/4 blue smoke issuing from exhaust on journey home, rectified with bottle of injector cleaner in tank
April 18 two weeks after purchase, dead battery, new one supplied and fitted by dealer
May 18 van would not crank from cold, took for diag test at auto electician, result delaminated pcb in fusebox, cost £30 for test, and £175 for fusebox.
June/July 18 eml came on with message faulty anti pollution, hite smoke on cold start and rough idling with foul smell around van, took for diag check, result faulty maf and leaking injector.
Aug 18 injectors removed cleaned and refitted with new seals and copper washers cost £144
This stopped leaking injector, but not white smoke or smell, Sept 18 fitted new maf after emi came on with same message, cost £75

I think I may have been to Throckley, sounds familiar :)

It is hard to be exhaustive about what to look for.
And I just listed all the problems with C5s that I could think of before twigging that you just meant the engine.

As said, I have only had fairly minor problems due mainly to lack of maintenance before I bought it.
If it is running right and doesn't kick out any smoke and the consumption figures seem reasonable there isn't much to worry about.

Apart from the previously mentioned injectors, mine has only needed a replacement alternator clutch and the crankshaft pulley that it took with it - again due to lack of maintenance.

I change the oil and filters at half the recommended 12,500 miles and that's it.
In daily use under poor conditions - it generally does 16 miles a day in four four-mile trips :(
As a result of that and a lead foot consumption isn't impressive but on longer runs I can get 650 - 700 miles from a tank full (65L).

Just looked up Throckley and the closest I have been is Newburn (scrapyards when I had a GS) although I have worked in Darras Hall, Ponteland, Jesmond and Heaton quite a bit in the past.

Yeah the famous Pringle's scrapyard! harry retired last year, and the yard closed down, much to the dismay of many. I would have been gutted had I still owned my old Rover75, but thankfully I upgraded to a modern car last year. The yard got cleared out and is now used by a scaffolding hire company.
My own van has suffered lack of maintenance too, the advert said f s h, but it didn't have, it had part service history, then nothing in the book until it was serviced when I bought it. Can't remember how many years it went either without a service, or it not being recorded. If I keep this van, it will be serviced each year, regardless of miles.

The 1.6 need a regular oil changes. Probably at a lower mileage than recommend.

Pringles indeed!
Only last year? - I presumed that it was long gone, as are most.
One Sunday I went there and to all the ones in the Newcastle area including the quayside, Shiremoor, Backworth and then on to Sunderland and surroundings. Did 150 miles searching for a driveshaft.
Found one in Bournmoor, six miles from home :(

Haven't been to a scrapyard in years now - ten years at least.

No it’s not rotten eggs, I knew if it was, that it would be cat related. It’s difficult to say what it is,. It’s definit exhaust fumes of a sort, but not normal exhaust fumes, it’s a stronger, more oppressive smell, makes your eyes water. Have had headaches through it, can’t drive without window open.

EDIT Just watched that video, 3 batteries???

Well the van is now back with the diesel specialist that did the injector clean, they are going to remove the injectors tomorrow and test them, then take things from there, once the test result is complete. Updates will follow once I have news.

Fuelling issue then - I hope you get it sorted Rich. If you end up keeping it and after the repairs - make sure you use decent fuel and keep away from supermarket stuff.

Update. Dealer has been in touch today and made an offer to contribute to the cost of repairs, this I have accepted and hope once new injectors ate fitted, that this will be an end to the problem.
However I still think I will get my money's worth from the costs incurred, then get rid.
