That sounds quite realistic. With the boxes being sealed for life I expect the manufacturers would point blame at them quickly.

Its a bit weird though that, for example, more than one fairly local 'auto gearbox specialist' advertises the full spectrum of services being available - filter and fluid changes to full rebuilds - but when you approach them to do a fluid change, they don't want to do it. As they're the 'experts', surely they'd tell me, after thoroughly checking my 'box prior to working on it, whether or not it had any issues that an oil change wouldn't fix! They're supposed to be the 'experts'!

Maybe they're experts on some of the many other makes ZF e.g. but not Aisin Warner.

I note that the Citroen workshop manuals offer no repair information on the AM6 box other than to remove and replace it and oil change/top up and they offer no internal parts, it's a new box or an exchange box only.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

They say they're 'experts' in 'all makes of automatic gearboxes'. They appear to be exaggerating somewhat!

It’s true, considering the wide use of the box in a number of different marques I'd assume that there would be no trouble in getting a specialist to perform the oil change.

I think Volvo recommend a regular oil change as part of their service schedule so maybe they would look at it if someone didn’t want to have a go themselves?

Personally, I love doing things myself but the lack of info on the oil change (well, the mixed info) has been a challenge, fortunately I now have the Citroen procedure for changing the oil.

And I picked up my parts from the Vauxhall dealer today.

"Made in Japan".... that's a good sign

No excuses not to get the job done now!

Haha! let's see how it turns out for me first [-o<

My dad said that I shouldn’t bother as its working well now.... but after i showed him this:

... He changed his mind.

From the sounds of it, these 'boxes appreciate preventative maintenance.

That’s probably good advice but I can’t see a good auto repair guy being able to turn down business from all these models: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AWTF-80_SC

I would study this guide: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjzkad6g7icp6 ... y.pdf?dl=0

It appears to be a translation of the actual Citroen instructions.

Just a note, my order from SAABits also arrived today, so I now have 5 sets of O-rings and Crush washers for the drain plug (Plenty for the foreseeable future), they are identical to the ones from the Vauxhall dealer which is good to know (and not unexpected).

In addition to the several litres of purest grade virgins blood ( JWS3309) I also have a funnel with a clear bit of pipe on it, should be very useful for the actual change.

So, no excuses now..... the oil change is ON!
