A very bad Birthday indeed.

Post by falling-out-with-my-car »

After getting nice weather for my 51st I should have been grateful and just stayed home
but no I had to go running errands for other people.
A momentary lapse of concentration and I stoved the front of my Xantia in
by hitting the cars tow ball in front of me. for want of a better word I am Gutted.
And the car was coming back together again after being quite poorly for a while.

It appears from early assessment that I have bent the radiator in the middle and broken the fan casings
the fans still turn just.
the offside headlamp hit the tow ball directly so that has gone to.
the spots survived although one is hiding behind the broken front bumper.
Come hell or high water I am going to fix her fortunately there is no structural damage at all as it was
a very low speed impact.
finding a whole bumper for an S2 Xantia is going to be the hardest part of all.
If Not I will have to drill holes along the four cracks in the bottom of the bumper
use copper wire to hold it in position whilst I fibreglass the inside of the bumper to repair it.
I'm not at all confident about fixing a broken off side bumper mount as these are pretty poor once their strength has gone.
another day in the shed. I am tempted to pay my excess and ask a side street garage to fix it
as I have never claimed on my fully comp insurance to fix my own car.

currently I have half a mind to ask on the forum if anyone near Kettering or Northamptonshire
has a full front bumper for a Mk2 S2 1.9TD Xantia please colour doesn't matter fortunately I'm handy with a can of spray.
one thing I can still get.

regards

Nigel.

Sorry to hear that - this is the second recent prang from a member! Did you protect your NCD on your insurance? If not - consider the premium next year it you're thinking of claiming - took one member here by surprise and now not viable to keep second car as a result

Marc,
fortunately I always protect it but they do penalise you slightly anyway especially if it is your fault.
fortunately the Xantia was £150 fully comp this year it wont be next year though. good times just don't last do they?
Last time I had a prang I lost 1 years NCB even though it was protected.
BTW does anybody happen to have access to an exploded diagram of the front bumper assembly please?
it might help with reconstruction.

Thanks in advance
Nigel.

Sorry to hear of your accident Nigel, good it was only the car that was damaged and not you.

If Alasdair hasn't a suitable replacement then I bet Paul (citroenxm) will have.

Nigel, so sorry to hear of your bad day and on your birthday too

As Lexi says, the bright side is that you're only 51... Wish I was only 51  :-D

Birthday wishes anyway are passed along and I know you'll soon have your Xantia sorted again... S2 bits are still fairly easy to source, It's S1 bits that aren't...

I've replied to your PM of earlier... I take it that was sent before this happened...

All best wishes :D

Alasdair,

Thanks very much but part No 1 has survived well as it was a very low speed impact,
however part No 3 has disintegrated completely.

cheers Nigel.
