C5 heater blower - Location of resistor pack?

Post by Steverosewell »

Hi everyone,
This is my first post as I am new to the forum. I need help in resolving a problem with the blower/fan on my C5. I understand that its a common problem that may be related to some sort of resistor/heatsink network that is located on the blower fan. The problem is that I find conflicting information on exactly where this device is. I have had a look in the drivers side footwell and dont think I see anything that resembles it.
my exact car model is Citroen C5 VTR Plus Score HDi 1.6 and it is 2009.

I am fairly handy with the tools but would not be confident stripping down the dashboard. All I would like is a VERY accurate description of where this device may be located and maybe some advice on how to access it.

Thanks very much for your help, it is much appreciated.

Regards
Steve

Hi Mike, Thanks for the quick reply. I have seen photos of the location you speak of on the older C5 and it seems totally different to mine. There doesn't seem to be any device that resembles what I am looking for.
The actual fault is that the blower....isnt blowing! there is no air coming through the vents even though all of the controls still function. After a short drive you can feel the hot air gently drifting out of the vents and that is just enough to clear the windscreen. I can operate the controls to divert this air from screen to front vents so it does seem that the vent mechanism is working. I believe that its either the fan itself or this mystical resistor pack that everyone talks about.

if you send me the last 8 digits of your chassis/VIN No. i will have a look at the exploded drawings on service citroen, to check what system you have,

it might just be overheated terminals at the plug for the speed control board

It's difficult to tell, but it appears to be on the front of the heater box, adjacent to the air intake. If you look in the passenger foot well, you should be able to see the door for the pollen filter, then above this you might be able to see a foam cover, and the blower appears to be under this. It might be possible to get it by taking the glove box out, but I rather suspect it is a dash out job   if so, that is a spectacularly rubbish bit of design!!

i just had a guess on service citroen, and it looks the same as my friends 05 pug 307, in which case you remove the glove box ( quite simple ), then put your hand trough the oppening and up to the top of the heater box against the bulkhead, this is the heater blower mount which you rotate about a quarter of a turn, them pull it out of the heater box, now just work out which angle it comes out from from all the gubins behind the dash,

there is one plug connector with two heavy wires and a second with i think 5 or 6 wires, it was this one that had over heated terminals on the 307

Hi Mate, Vin last 6 digits are: 510480
I explained to Citroen that a lot of owners on te web have experience of this resistor fault and he admitted that it was a distinct possibility that they were correct? He then explained that they always quote for full replacement of the heater system which includes the resistor pack because of the labour involved in removing those items.

I would be very interested to see exactly where this device is and how to remove it.

thanks for your help.

Quick update. I have at last located the device. For the sake of all C5 owners out there I will endeavour to get a fully accurate description and some photos so that nobody can be in any doubt where this resistor pack can be found on a 2009 C5. Just briefly for now though, it is located on the passenger side behind the right hand side of the glove box and very near the engine bay bulkhead. You have to remove the rigid footwell cover and you should see it.
I am still trying to work out how to remove it and awaiting information as we speak.
Thanks guys
