Clutch was making a strange noise last week, sort of click/clunk as you push the pedal down... Well this morning, stopped at a set of lights and I couldn't get into 1st gear, had to drive back home without clutch , good job it was only around the corner.
Any idea what sort of price I should be paying? And what would be the best make?
Cheers

Re: Xsara Picasso Clutch gone!
If you want to keep it, then fit a Valeo or LUK clutch (I suspect Valeo is OE spec) - carparts4less have got LUK ones listed at £85, aepdirect Valeo ones at £125. If you hate it and yourself, save £20 by fitting a Transmech clutch Probably 5 or 6 hours labour, depending on what is rusted up - so figure in £300 or so for that. Add in a bit for gear oil, diff seals, input seal, and pivot shaft bushes if you do it properly and you are looking at the thick end of £500. Worth doing on a Picasso if it's otherwise reasonable - they are holding their value pretty well.
At least it's not a 1.6 HDi, as the clutch job on those is reportedly horrible....

Re: Xsara Picasso Clutch gone!
as its a 2.0 HDI i may have a DMF in which case being the 2.0 cit/pug do a conversion kit back to a solid flywheel,
a replacement DMF is around £400 quid from GSF and a lot more from the dealer

All Picasso 2.0 are 90 bhp, so no DMF in this case, just a straight forward clutch replace, not that easy on Picasso.

Around £300 all in is the sort of money you'd expect to pay. It's not the worst clutch to do, but I wouldn't attempt to diy unless you've done something similar before. As someone else said the 1.6hdi is a real pig and that HAS got a dmf fitted.

Clutch all done, went in to local garage that my taxi driver mate uses. £295 using a LUK clutch. Very happy and oh sooooo light!
