many thanks for your reply

i am not too good on mm sizes but assume they are approx 5" and 4" respectively

upon measuring the said spaces in the doors i come to the conclusin that the fronts are 6.5" 17cm which i assume is 170mm / and the rears are 5" approx 13cm which i assume is 130mm

can anyone confirm which of the above are correct ?

many thanks edd

Yours are correct Edd 17 front and 13 rear both common sizes. I got some 2 ways for the rear doors and some Mid range ones for the front as there should be tweeters up on the dashboard. If not get custom fit ones which will have a set of tweeters and mid ranges in them. Make sure they say "to fit Citroen"
For example :
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... /4822.html
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/produc ... d/223.html
Obviously these are the cheapest but it's up to you how much you want to spend. Good luck.

5" and 4"? you must be nearly as old as me! To make sure you get the right ones and cheap, a trip to the scrapyard might be in order.

Actually inches are still used for specifying speaker diameters even in metric countries.... don't ask me why....  Other properties like the excursion are measured in metric though...

Like tyres, still measured in inches even on the continent.

eddmiester - Sorry, I'm double that and a few more too  and I should know about speakers being measured in inches - I'm a TV engineer!

Alec,
are the ones you refer to better than or of a comparable standard to the original fitments?
C5 2l 2001 130K - daily use X-country (must change job)
Xantia 1.9TD Estate VSX 1995 111k - daily use X-county
3xBX 1xGS 1x16 TS - oh that was a Renault

To be honest they were the first I came to to show what I was on about. I would think they would be better than the originals though. The ones that I got for the front doors of mine were louder than the originals but had no bass response at all, so I ended up just changing the rear door speakers and the tweeters in the dashboard. The best advice is either have a play about in Hellfords or go to an independent car stereo specialist for advice. I've not been to clued up on Car hi-fi for a while being married and mortgaged. I'm as old as eddmeister you see. The last time a had a quality stereo was about 15 years ago.

Hellfords sold me two pairs of sony 2 way speakers (intended for cars that already have the speaker aperature and grilles) They sound fantastic with the original dashboard tweeters as well. On the box they say suitable for Citroen, Ford, Mazda etc.

Ps Sorry I got my speaker sizes wrong, I've just put a set in my wifes new Golf and remembered the wrong sizes
