xantia front suspension clonk

Post by user_3150 »

Hi all, hope your all having a good christmas. Just a quick one. Did the droplinks in the summer but still have clonking coming from the front nearside whilst driving also when turning back from full lock when the car isn't moving it makes quite a bad sounding thud. Any ideas?

1) Bottom ball joint
2) Steering rod joint a) outer b) inner
3) Steering rack mountings
4) Inner lower suspension bushes
5) Drop links (again?)
6) Worn steering pinion
I'd check them in that order.

Cheers NiSK. Do you mean check and change as needed or change each item 1 after the other until the problem is fixed?

Start with the bottom ball joint. Jack up the car with the wheel hanging loose so that there's two to three inches between ground and tyre. Get a helper with a lever under the tyre and pull up and down. Watch for unnecessary movement in the ball joint. Only replace if it's worn.
