Well,

I shunned the purchase of a new Alfa Stelvio and am now a very happy owner of a DS7 Crossback. back to French cars since losing my 306 cabrio a few years ago.

You'll find me loitering around Pistonheads from time to time and Alfaowner.

I don't suppose there are many DS7 owners here yet so I'll have a nose around and look forward to joining in.

Hi. Gosh I've never even heard of DS7!

Citroen have separated out DS as a sub-brand. (my words) as a kind of design house. There have been DS versions of the range for some time and there still are.

The DS7 is the first newly designed car to come out under the DS brand. The dealerships that are selling DS's have an upgraded section of the showroom to make one feel all cool and groovy.

As a nod to the DS's of old my one has really fancy lighting that does a little dance when you turn the car on and turn with the steering angle. very cool.

Yes, that’s just the initialisation routine making sure they are operating properly. Anything untoward and they deactivate the directional function, going into backup mode (normal lighting dead ahead only). They all do this from about late 2004 with the bi-directional xenon option across PSA.

Aw, I thought they were dancing.

I'm told that I don't need to do anything when heading to France for our holidays this year. Is that right?

The handbook is singularly useless!

Some mixed messages on this one - with standard lights yes - but with the directional ones on some factory-fitted OEM and Xenon bulbs don’t require adjustment – the beam pattern will be completely flat, so you won’t need to modify them at all.

Best thing is to make a quick call to the dealer. Citroen's response to a previous C5 owner when he queried this was:
... the C5 headlamps do not require adjustment or masking as they fall within legal limits for continental driving.
There are no accessory kits for BD Xenons for masking listed at all - so a quick phone call will be best to confirm for your DS7

I read some time ago that some chap was going to buy a set of Left Hand Drive headlamps for touring the continent - until he realised he was driving round with £2k worth of headlamps on, so soon knocked that idea on the head! :-D

PS - I do like the interior from the picture - very 'DSque'. My only gripe is the move from physical switches to having most of the controls on the central touch screen - they talk about people not being on their mobiles while driving as a distraction - but to me this is 100 times worse as if anything like the Cactus, all the heating, ventilation, Climate controls, ESP deactivation, cruise control selection speeds, Start Stop / ECO mode etc, are all on this screen. There is no tactile interface so you can't feel your way around the controls like on a standard dash. Surely this entails taking your eyes off the road more and more as the screen display constantly changes depending what you want to do? 2 steps forward and 10 back.

Although I have voice commands on my X7 for all the telematics functions and can change radio station, media source, volume, change track and chapter, control navigation and telephone functions etc., etc., It still isn't robust enough to control other aspects of the vehicle yet - but this would be a better way to go if you could tell it to demist the windscreen or put the heated rear window on etc. I'm sure it is available on some 'premium' car brands, but this would be the better way to go I think.

Also, pray that the screen doesn't die, or one could be well and truly snookered. :-D

The dealers are the ones who told me about not having to adjust things. My car was the first one on the road in London. It had to go in for a replacement battery and I'm not sure they know their way round them just yet but they seemed certain about the lights.

The screen in the middle does run most things although there is a row of switches below it. If you are driving and fiddling with it for too long it shuts down and tells you to concentrate on driving.

Its a very nice place to be sitting and I'm getting used to things. Most functions have voice control and the steering wheel is well equipped with buttons to help out. The cruise control isn't as intuitive as either my Alfa or Saab and I can't turn the voice off on the sat nav.

I hope you enjoy it - as I said, I do like the interior of the DS including the centre console - a bit of flair and design that is reminiscent of the earlier Citroen 'quirkiness' that so many of us here love and that has been sadly lacking in recent years.
