Perhaps consider making an offer on the Isabella that's up for grabs at the auction tomorrow?

I had the privilege of being loaned a Borgward Isabella TS for a few weeks, many moons ago.

It was a beautiful car inside and out and got many admiring glances and comments from the public

I have unhappy memories of wiring problems on an Isabella. Boasting or complaining? Neither, just saying!

What is that BX7 really - & why is it marketted as a Borgward in Iran, of all places?

Borgward BX7 German through and through.....except its assembled in China, and the Chinese Truck Maker Foton is a major shareholder in the brand.

I'm playing the Xbox one game "Fallout 4" at the moment and that picture reminds me strongly of the style of cars in the game.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_vehicles

As most of the game is set about 200 hundred years in the future in a post apocalypse wasteland you can't actually drive them though, as they are rusted husks lying in the wasteland.

It is set in an alternative universe which diverged from ours somewhere in the 40's-60's, and then had a nuclear war in the 60's so a lot of the technology including cars is based on styles from that era, except most of the cars were nuclear powered!

Fallout 4 is also available on the PC, and I have a copy (although I have not played it for a while). Seeing the vintage cars littering the area does work well.

They also have a VR version, but instead of creating a package you can buy and install (allowing your normal copy to support VR) you have to buy Fallout 4 VR as a complete separate package. Bit unfair, that!

"German through and through"? I think not. Seems like Foton bought the name, applied it to something completely inappropriate, for the Chinese market - which they MIGHT try to sell to the Germans in due course.

Those Isabella coupes go for serious money in die fatherland, if the couple I saw at the Essen show were anything to go by.

Hope you didn't miss the sarcasm in my post Van. You will find no reference to the Chinese connection in the Borgward website :-D Have a look see if you can find one I couldn't.

https://www.borgward.com/company/

The wiki page does reveal the Chinese connection but doesnt go into exact detail of the relative stakes of Foton and the other shareholders. To maunfacture in China the Foton Stake will be at least 50% though.

They make Buicks in China - I doubt that any Chinese Industrial Conglomorate has a 1/2-share in GM.

Back to Borgward: I didn't even realise it was anything more than one of Germany's surprisingly large number of defunct motor manufacturers, so amazed there is a website.

As for ugly SUV's - howabout a Maybach V12 G-wagen cabrio? Can't imagine such a thing? Well, it's longer than the original, stretche in the region of the back doors it seemed, the soft top is a rather half-hearted pramhood affair behind the rear doors (i.e. an electric, mohair pramhood with dark glass), it is also considerable higher off the ground, in part due to the 18" (might even be 20") spoky alloys albeit with, probably, 40 profile tyres. Still if you consider an Overfinch too common & don't have quite enough room for a Hummer, it'd be ideal.

Never occurred to me they weren't real Buicks - still, at least that means GM's unlikely to sell the division to the Chinese.
