I find it quite bizzare that they're even part of the uniform.

Obviously I should have introduced "in this country" somewherein my original statement - but I had taken that as a given. I can see that concessions might need to be made in the tropics (especially in high humidity) although for Egypt, S. Africa, India & VietNam I simply swapped my usual black jeans for lighter coloured ones.

Yes I know its Spring now but this bit of footage has just hit our local news today.

Look what sardines, jam and peanut butter tempted out to make an appearance in Northumberland for the first time in since 1905

I'll bring forward my two buses ploughing through the snow in the wilds of North-West Durham. 1963 I presume.

I like the black and white photos, but the second one in paerticular would have looked good in colour. That's a Consett Speciality....The Venture Bus....Yellow Cream and Maroon livery :-D

Yes Stanley is at the top of the hill with Beamish just a couple of miles down, on the way to Chester-le-Street.

Famous for having the world's coldest bus stop. (well it seemed like that when we had to change buses there in our pre-car days!)

One of my favourite snow pix, the red car dates it as 2006 - 8.

in the course of yesterday's exploits we were amazed to see a recent Vauxhall pull into the emergency lane on a major A road slip; a quick look back (not time for a photo) showed just a small triangle of snow cleared at the OS top of its windscreen.

It does not matter how well you drive in the snow, it is how well the other idiots can :)
