Two spots caught on my GoPro whilst out cycling today... Both are 'stills' from the video footage so quality is not good...

Also, raindrops on the lens did not help...

The BMW has my initials on its numberplate :) Shockingly spoilt by awful lowering

Along the A48 and at the Over roundabout Gloucester this morning a 1950s Vauxhall FB Estate, thought I might have it on dashcam but no luck.

It was followed by a silver estate maybe Skoda or Ford but it was leaving so much blue smoke behind I couldn't be sure.

Surely the FB came out in the '60's? However, a surprising number of them turned up at various shows throughout this summer - AND I did see one out on the road.

I thought most of them rusted out in the early 60s too

Yes Jim you're right. :)

I made quite a bit of money buying, welding and selling them in the early sixties, Van might be right about this one, could be late fifties, early sixties.

Here's an example from Wiki:

I remember when they were new - then they all rapidly fell apart. Fortunately the Velox's and Cresta's lasted a bit longer. Don't think I ever saw an estate 'F' model though.

Shame they so loved to rust as they're a very attractive car - for a Vauxhall :)

Good mechanically too Jim, once stuck back together properly they gave good service, I must have sold dozens of them and never had a complaint.

I think they came out in '57 about the time of the first 'PA's' which were of course a revolutionary shape. I had one of the first 'new shape' Velox's in about 1960 it was pink (mountain rose) lovely car though. I paid 410 pounds for it. (my 'pounds' key has stopped working again.

I don't think the Victor bodies were that rigid, there were cases of the windscreen breaking when jacking them up.

Shades of the Allegro then

But was that more down to rust weakening than inherent bad design?

Was he telling you it was its 49th Birthday tomorrow? (first reg 5 December 1969-Bristol reg) The 2 Factory Blues for that year would be Corsica Blue or Zircon Blue but looks quite faded.

We never got quite that far! Sadly, yes, the paintwork is very faded... In places it's covered in white spots too..
