Those early Lotus Cortinas in MK1 guise were great Alasdair...

Just goes to assist in proving my basic rule that MK1 of anything is always the best....

The easy one goes! but to be totally accurate I think the example is the slightly more humble Ford Cortina GT albeit given a bit of enhancement.
Lotus developed their own version of the car (under the stewardship of Ford) that used the engine and transmission from the Lotus Elan. This special Lotus Cortina was a halo car of sorts – Ford had developed their own sports version, the Ford Cortina GT, which was available for slightly less money with similar performance due to its sports suspension and engine enhancements.
Any guesses for the nice pair?

Are we talking about the car or the headlamps? The car is an old Lagonda I think, sporty headlamps from that era could be Lucas or Hella or maybe even Notek, it has to be a guess.

The side lamp is definitely Lucas

Not a Lagonda, definitely English though. If you google the name without the qualifier "car" up come hundreds of watches if thats any help.

Not entirely intended, but there is a not too-tenuous link between the two cars other than them being green. Men or women of Kent and steam roller afficionardos, especially those with a bit of knowledge of greek mythology should be able to work it out. :)

I was quite taken by a story I read a few months ago about the lower one of the two here.
Between February and July 1927 Cordery drove an mumblemumble around the world, accompanied by a nurse, a mechanic, and an RAC observer. They covered 10,266 miles in five months at 24.6 mph, crossing Europe, Africa, India, Australia, the United States and Canada

Yes that story confirms you have the right marque Steve, the Cordery in question being "Violette".

Its probably a better known "character" from Greek Mythology which helps witth the top car. Priapus no doubt had his qualitiies which are well summarised on his wiki page!.....come to think of it maybe even a link if you think laterally.

Not the Priapus roadster this time

The pedals are there up in the shadow behind the dashboard.

Made my brain ache thinking 'what looked like a Lagonda?'............ It's an Invicta
