Post by GiveMeABreak »

Please note that the FCF Admin Team have amended the FCF Acceptable Usage Policy to clarify the rules concerning Profile Signatures and Commercial Posts as of September 2017.

An extract from the AUP concerning the changes is listed below, however all members are kindly asked to visit the following link and familiarise themselves with the updated policy:

FCF Acceptable Usage Policy

(F) User Profiles

Members are encouraged to personalise their profiles, but to ensure that mobile device users are not adversely affected, please observe the following when completing the signature area (the line that appears beneath each of your posts):
  1. No more than 4 lines of text
  2. A maximum of 30 words in total
  3. No images, graphics or logos
  4. No more than one link or URL[/quote]

Please note that there is ample space in the Avatar section for additional text if required (such as listing previous vehicles owned etc.).

I think it is safe to say that, looking at your own Avatar, there is more than ample space, Marc!

Absolutely James. :-D
When posts are viewed on some mobiles in portrait, the avatar side may not always be shown (depending on mobile device and screen size), allowing more of the post content to be displayed without side scrolling. Having large signature areas can reduce the post space significantly. With your current signature James, it takes up about a quarter of the screen as an example:

I had to give a wry smile at this. On another forum we encouraged people to move all the clutter from underneath their name and avatar into the signature box as the avatar section was frequently (in fact most often) larger than the post itself!

The irony is not lost on me, but on a small screen device, the left hand panel is usually not shown, so the lists don't take up any space.

I have deliberately been using a phone for much of my browsing for a few months, which has resulted in several minor changes in the forum layout on small screens.

I don't know if it's the same on phone screens, but certainly using my laptop the depth of the side bar dictates the depth of the whole message body (where the message is shorter than the list on the side bar, as I would suggest most all postings except for ones with attachments like this one, and the lengthier blogs and stories are) and as such it actually makes short posts like the above much deeper (over 2/3rds of the screen in fact) than if the cars/previous cars were to be listed in the signature...

See my post above showing the portrait mobile screen on an iPhone 6plus - no avatar section at all, so focusses on the post content. The display is adaptive depending on your screen size and resolution, so different for each person depending on what they use. The changes were mostly to improve mobile use, where display options are obviously very limited, unlike a laptop or PC.

Granted, that on a non-mobile device it will show as much of the site as possible - but still remains responsive to adapt to the browser window size - try increasing / reducing the browser window to see how it changes.
