Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hello All,

I'm wondering if someone can help me. I've recently aquired a 306 XLD, all seems fine apart from no head lights. The dipped beam works but not the full beam, on either bulb. I have checked the fuse, No. F24 and it seems fine. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

All, a friends td has just started suffering black smoke and low power.
A brief history... car brought and used for a couple of years, I have done very little to it except changing the lucas system to a bosch, and since then it has - like my xantia - ran on WVO form the same source.. It has always suprised me as being a very nippy car, a lot more...

I would guess it will be listed but in a silly place like the bodyshell area instead of the side door area etc. But I did have a good look and could not find them anywhere, although my documentation is quite old (cut off about 2006 I think)

Dealer will be able to get them anyway, unless you plan to get used ones (might be tricky to find) :)

It would seem by the noise that my crankshaft pulley needs replacing.

What actually happens to it that causes it to rattle so much?

If the pulley is the same design as the larger engines (I do not have one to check) its because its got a rubber piece to join the inner and outer sections, this reduces vibration but this is what splits and causes the noise as the pulley separates.

I have a 406 here that is producing copious quantities of white smoke and misfiring at idle. When I disconnect the injector on no 3 cylinder (the one with the needlelift sensor), there is no difference to the running. A mate at work has the above car and from what i can gather the rear bush has gone and he now has 1 wheel leaning a bit :)

Any ideas on where to get a replacement axle as i seem to remember reading that its easier to replace the whole axle rather than the bush.

hi iv tested the wiper motor and this is ok. im fairly shour the relay is at fault. after a long while scouring the net iv learned the relay for this is behind the fuse box, im not having much luck locating it, can any one shed some light on this? any help much appriciated. many thanks

Had to do a head gasket change on my 206 1.4 HDi. All done and back together-ish just got a a couple of connectors and an air tube spare and can't fathom out where they go. Here are pics:

Good morning,

I've got my eye on a 2000 MY 406, apparently the front electric window doesn't work. Does anyone know if this could be a potentially very expensive problem? On my 405 it wouldn't be an issue but I understand these were more complex - do they have this 'multiplex' wiring or whatever? Cheers!

It might be the switch itself inside the wheel. From memory the switch is part of the wheel not on the stalk, although its been about 3 years since I sat in one.

Is it pre 2000 ? (X plate or older?) or newer. Newer are multiplexed which is best to get put on a diag (Lexia or Planet) to check there's nothing really odd going on first.

Hi!

Make sure additionally the auxiliary brake-light switch isn't faulty - there's one for the stop-lights on one side of the brake-pedal plus an additional one for ABS/ESP etc!

i have a 1996 peugeot 106. everytime i turn right the car cuts off. after a little while it starts driving if not the car turns off i then have to turn it on and drive again. can anyone tell me what the problem is.

I've had this before and it was due to the MAP sensor wiring being duff.

Really though need to know what engine it is. does it cut out completely and come back in or does it just go dead and not restart.

is it a harsh cutting out or is it similar to fuel starvation where the engine gently cuts out...

I don't have a picture to hand, but these steel wheels were 'only' fitted to the 1.4XS and the 'real' (not the later Mardi-Gras) 'D-Turbo' and not that common it seems. :?

I have a 1997 406 with 2.0 petrol engine (the early XU engine) and 114k.
I bought it a couple of years ago with a blown (literally - bits hanging out everywhere!) engine after it ingested water.
I sourced a replacement engine, fitted it, and all was well. It passed an MOT, emissions were fine, and it got pressed into service driving to and from...

I'm currently in the middle of a clutch change on my 206 1.4 hdi, I'm near enough ready to drop the box, but the only thing stopping me is the o/s drive shaft.

Well, finally the drive shaft is free, unfortunately it is still in the bearing housing. At least I can now get on with taking the box off. I've took the shaft to my local garage, hopefully they can free the two parts.

A good friend of mine has a 2000 W reg Peugeot 206 with a 1.4 TU engine fitted to it.

The car will idle perfectly all day long but only starts to give problems when accelerating.

The doors locking / unlocking is called bouncing, this can be anything unfortunately.

Do not overlook the actual lock buttons on the doors themselves, if these do not work or jam it can make it bounce. I would suggest taking them off (they come off quite easily with just a small screwdriver in the hole or something) but they can...

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can help me identify, and possibly resolve this leak!

I've been smelling diesel in the car for a few days now, and had a look under the bonnet today to see if I could identify where it's coming from.

Hi all.
On lucas fuel pumps what is the Advance value engraved on the injection pump on a little yellow tab.
As I have swopped a pump and the figures are different.
IE. 2.72 to a 2.63 Does anyone know does it matter.

As Jim has said, although not 'that' difficult you do need some proper kit to get it right. The numbers are specific to that actual pump. Sometimes its engraved on it too so it can't be lost.

I could get you mine (XUD7TE) but that may not be anything like you need.

From memory getting accurate TDC was easier with the earlier engines as these had...

My dad has a 1999 406 2.0 HDi (110) with the engine management light on, I have come over to visit (he lives in france) and read the fault with PP2000, fault came up as Intermittent fault Accellerator pedal signal 2. coherance with accellerator pedal signal 1.

hi everyone

i need help!! my injector pump on my 306 year 2000 x has packed in and i have been hunting a replacement which gas been extremely difficult as its a dw8 engine. i think i've found one but how do i know they are the same without physically checking them? should all the info on the plate on the pump be identical or just some of them?...

If the P11 is also from a DW8, it should be OK Chris.

Then, retrieve the situation by transferring the immobiliser module under the armour plate on the side of the pump and the stop solenoid between the good and dead pump.

hi can anyone sugest why my 306 wont start drove it to work parked it up came back to it 4 hours later and just turns over aa came up with cam sensor throttle posistion sensor and fuel pressure regulator sensor replace all 3 and still the same problem will fire up with easy start for a few seconds lp pump is working we have diesel to all injectors...

Does any 306 enthusiast know when this steering wheel was used on 306s, I think I remember it being issued for a short while before the airbag one came out (unless its a foreign only job). It's a great design and fancy one for my car, if I could get it anywhere. It's on the following ebay listing:

They are a rare steering wheel anyway unfortunately, as its quite a nice design for the non air bag models. The base model pre-airbag one is horrible I think.

It is a bit slim to find one. They might actually be available new, although I would not expect them to be very cheap.

However, you never know you're luck :D , one may appear at your local...

Hi there,

My mums 206 is suffering from the fault where the headlights come on when you indicate. I've had a search and it's a common fault which requires the Comms 2000 unit to be replaced behind the steering wheel.

Is this a regular DIY job, or because of airbags etc does it need to be done by a professional?

Hi,

Yes exactly the same problem with the 206. The headlights are automatic, when they're on, the indicators are fine. I'm going to look in to replacing it for her, as it can actually be quite dangerous!

However I'll hold back for a while, she is test driving the Peugeot 1007 this afternoon so we'll see what happens... may be a problem for the...

It is soon coming up to the MOT being due on my 406 (51 plate 2.0 HDI 90 estate), and I am wondering where to take it.

My current thinking is Gates Peugeot in Brockenhurst, does anyone have any experience of them?
I'm running out of garages that haven't either screwed up or done sloppy work in the past. Also the car has had pretty much all work...

Well the 406 has had it's MOT, passed with pretty much flying colours. One advisory on it.

Also as it stands at the moment I would definately recommend Gates in Brockenhurst.
They were perfectly able to follow my request for the MOT to be done before the service, took the car in at about 9.30 and it was ready again by 1pm, Having had the MOT,...

hi here we go again ive bought a replacment axle from the internet for my 1999 306 diesel estate abs drums ,but.. the axle ive bought has no compensator.. the idea is to take my one, and attch it to the new one through holes provided..ok but what if the intenet axle was not from an estate which would prove no good...so to cut to the short DID ALL...

I do not have access to any data at the moment, although from memory models with ABS do not have a compensator fitted as its there to reduce brake pressure to the rear wheels when heavily loaded to stop them locking. With ABS there's not really the same effect as you cannot 'lock' them.

I could be wrong (sorry) but that's what my memory...

205's MOT tomorrow :)

Just dropped it off to the place where I used to work, new metal fuel lines to be fitted first (hence me dropping it off a bit early) , although these may be NLA from the dealer in which case it will be time to hunt down some copper piping of suitable diameters (different sizes feed / return)

Probably want a wishbone too...

i thought an MOT should be no more than an hour TEA HE,

the BX front to rear fuel lines come pr/shaped ready to fit, appart from i usualy had to lop off about two inch's on one of them at the rear end,

well 4 years of trouble free motoring from my 207 Gt Hdi its time for a change. the 1.6 hdi engine has been fantastic and really improved with age, likes to be redlined and pulls like a train ! lovely car and at the prices now a great used Buy I would say

now its time for something bigger and I've traded it for a new Citroen C5 2.0 hdi. hoping...

hi ive bought a 306 estate axle from the internet last year,ive just had it fitted today only to find the cars to low at the back perhaps it came off a diffrent modle ?? any hows the old one is now no good...might the new one need ajustment???

im in ramsgate ,ye i tested it with a couple of 20st guys in the back over some bumps and didnt feel any knocks but it looks wrong besides i use it as a taxi at weekends can it not be ajusted??

Would anyone know when they upped the bhp from 194 to 210 on these, was it with the introduction of the D9 in 1999? Looking at the spec sheets it looks like the more powerful one is more economical as well.

The glow plugs on my Ph1 306 Dturbo last at best only a year. Now this isn't right as I've seen cars which run on glow plugs which were 10 years! old.

To start the car I have to use the glow plugs 3-4 times in succession waiting for the airbag light to go out as well (over 10 seconds in total). When the car is warm it starts on the first try...

Fully agreed Richard... The only ones to use are BERU ones and make sure they're the right ones. GN909 for Turbos and GV636 for Non-Turbo. The wrong ones in the wrong engine don't work at all well and may last a matter of days.

You cannot test glowplugs with ohmmeter alone. That just shows some continuity and gives no indication that they are...

The car displayed an esp warning on the dash. It was taken by the owner to a Peugeot dealer who couldn't get his diagnostics to communicate whth tha abs unit. The owner was advised that a new abs unit was required.

Thanks for your reply. The fault (which I since found out is a pressure sensor fault) is permanent and will not clear. Further research indicates 3 possible causes.

1 A faulty pressure sensor in the master cylinder
2 A faulty or maladjusted brake light switch

Its typically just a white sticker about 2 inches long and about an inch high (on the door / pillar)

On the strut top / suspension tower its more likely to be painted on. Be aware the build code is likely to be on the strut tower too, but if you write them all down, wherever you are getting paint / work done they will know which is the paint...

It was done at a Nationwide Autocentre and the boss is an ex Peugeot technician who said that the problem was a known one on all late 306 models.

I do not think the 405 or 306 ever had this unit, certainly not from the factory. The rare Mi 4x4 405 had the 16v unit iirc.

Absolutely Andy, the 405 Mi16 and 4X4 had the legendary Mi16 engine as found in the BX GTi 16V Valver . The XU9J4 all-alloy unit.

Hi,

Please Help.

I recently changed the air flow temperature sensor, cleaned my air filter, and changed my fuel filter.

The car is running perfectly, however....

when left cold for a few hours - it will start - then cuts out and wont start without priming the little ball thing in the engine.

any help would be appreciated

i know what you mean about the type of filter houseing you have Steve,its a right pain in the doooo daaaa to stop them leaking, i spoze i will have to buy the propper tool ans see if that works better than my mole'y chain wrench,

those plastic clamps on the oval filter are availible on there own i belive

This is difficult to explain and intermittent, although a concern.

If I corner right and then left, as soon as I straighten up (well, about a second or two after) there's a big power increase, by not moving my foot there's a burst of acceleration.

I should add, you only get this if you corner eagerly, so it tends not to happen...

I was thinking about plastic piping, although the run under the car has bends etc.

I then thought about larger bore copper piping too.

I'm actually letting my garage friends do this, as I have no driveway or garage and its not very nice anyway and 'on the floor' even worse. :)
