Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Cleans out all the gunk that's sitting in oil ways etc. Personaly I'd not bother. Your engines just about run in with that 122K on the clock. Even if you do give it a clean the oil will still turn black almost straight away. Nature of a diesel.

Mark, I think you should consider whether the bar is in fact correctly fitted. The bar on my own S2 XM Estate is behind the lower edge and the bar extension for the ball drops below and comes up around the lip.
Different bars have different fitting styles and methods but I am not aware of one that requires this degree of surgery to the car.

I have just had a citroen towbar fitted to my s2 xm saloon by my specialist (woodlinkin, derby). The problem is with the bumper, it seems to be under a lot of strain and isnt up fully where the body starts. This is down to a lack of room between the flange at the bottom of the bumper and the towbar. The garage have said there is nothing...

Update:
If I have the car stationary and rev the engine to 2000 rpm with the clutch down then the engine is perfectly smooth.
That's led me to think that maybe the problem isn't with the engine at all...maybe it's play in the drivetrain or a characteristic of the suspension causing the power to feel 'bouncy' at 2000 rpm?
(TBH, I'm not entirely...

Vehicle: Berlingo with 1.9 diesel engine
Problem: at between 1900-2000 revs the engine tends to start 'hunting'.
If you are accelerating or decelerating the problem doesn't occur; it only occurs when you are trying to maintain a steady speed.

Only tip I can give is doing a speedo cable on a '93,106D, which was fairly straight forward. On the small Pug, my dealer advised fitting a 405 cable as they have exactly the same fittings but is slightly longer making it easier to navigate through the dashboard. The extra length also makes fitting to the back of the speedo easier. I would assume...

Oil on a clutch tends to either cause the clutch to slip when it should be locked, or cause it to judder when you're slipping it (i.e. when pulling away from a junction etc).
You may need to check your clutch cable adjustment.

My Zx has an oil leak which i have traced back to to Crankseal behind the flywheel. Over a peroid of time i have found that my gear dont always like going into gear and the clutch somtimes feels a bit slippery.

Rory,
Very common on all makes, particularly on larger front wheel drive cars with power steering that travel on roads with roundabouts.... and worse on a car that doesn't have its tyres up to pressure 100% of the time.
Known as Milton Keynes syndrome!
Also affected by confident RH bend cornering syndrome !

I'm sorry, but it looks lile your HG is still leaking, or perhaps you have head troubles. If a garage did the work, take it back sharpish!
HOWEVER, it may be an airlock, was the cooling system properly bled? If you aren't sure, do this again, certainly before driving the car again...

Your battery leads are not connected firmly enough. Starter drain stops current.. With alternator running all OK.
Remove leads, clean terminals with emery paper/steel wool and tighten

Some Xantias have a key switch under the bonnet on the passenger side which will silence the alarm.
Early Xantias (my 95 has it) had it, later ones don't (my 97 doesnt).
I just read that it says ZX....

I think it has that little fan to draw air in over the temperature sensor (unlike the sensible old CX that just stuck it out in the middle of the ceiling under a cage). If you get a dodgy sensor or a wiring fault, will that stop some pulses from the sensor being picked up by the speedo and thus the under reading? On the back of the gearbox on top of the diff is a plug, you could try unplugging it, WD40ing it and putting it back together, see if that makes any difference.

The only bit that commonly causes noise that you have listed are the anti-roll bar bushes, if the drop links are all tight and have no play its probably somewhere worth starting looking.

There are two types of pump fitted to the Xantia, one is a single outlet pump (which needs an flow divider valve if the car has power steering) and the double outlet pump which does not.

OK, it's a poor joke, but I've just bought a replacement Xantia - 97R TD VSX hatch. Very smart (apparently - I haven't seen it yet, but my Dad has looked it over / driven it) only 53k with dealer history (We all know what THAT means!!). It is not a battery drain light, it is a charge warning light. It does sound as if you have a feed to the switched supply even with the ignition off, but you have eliminated the switch, so prime suspects are those bits that handle both switched and unswitched supplies:
Fuseboxes under dash and on LHF wheel arch - try pulling fuses until light...

I am having a problem with the drivers side electric window mechanism. The plastic attachment which fits to the base of the window via a hole in the glass has broken, this has 1 ? cable attached to it? I also notice that one of the two cable from the winder is loose and not attached to anything? Although it appears intact. Haynes manual does not...

I dont have the estate but if !!!!!!!! its the same as the diesel hatchback then the fuel pump is on the drivers side and is accesable under the rear seat.
You remove the plastic blanking cover (EASY) then you see the top of the pump. Remove the electrical connections and secure with string etc else it will drop down on top of the fuel tank. You...

Ive heard that once engine is running, disconnecting the keypad disables the imobiliser, but not sure if it actually works having not tried it. Also, if you read the other post to do with the ignition system, the imobiliser wont stop the engine turning over, just cuts off the fuel supply.

The keypad won't actually prevent the engine turning over, it just stops fuel getting to the injector pump.
Its worth checking the earth strap to the engine. Can you hear the solenoid click when you turn the key ?

Sometimes when I switch the ignition on everything acts normal; I then enter in the security code into the keypad and get the green light. However when I try to turn the engine over nothing happens at all, it's totally dead. When I remove the key and repeat the procedure the keypad will automatically go green and the ignition still does nothing....

The first thing you need to do is make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight, and the alternator drive belt is o.k., then check if its charging properly- if you have a multimeter put it across the battery terminals with the motor running: you should be getting 14 to 14.5 volts, increasing slightly with revs. Anything much less points to a...

Have noticed occasionally that when after having started car, set off up the road with blowers on, the speed of the fan(s) will suddenly increase from one constant speed to slightly higher.
This effect has been observed with the lights. They will be at a reasonable brightness, then suddenly increase and remain slightly brighter.

I've never got as good results with brazing as I have with welding. If it gets properly stuck again, you'll find that your huge head will be easy to knock off with a hammer.
Those inspection holes that you speak of are ventilation holes to prevent your clutch from overheating.

My old BX TD is with Tom Sheppard. I too had the YWLD and this seems to have been caused by dodgy thermostat and fan cut in sensor. Possibly it caused hot spots on Cylinder Head which once sorted disappeared.All this was confused by a major water loss from the oil cooler pipe!
However, do check for bubbles, and also for rock hard top hose....

The problem is a large coolant loss from the hole at the top of the header tank, with coolant being sprayed over the battery and gearbox.

My Dad's solution to a socket not fitting would be to knock it on with a hammer, the hammer is his solution to a lot of problems. Often torx bolts get full of muck in the splines and gently knocking the torx bit in will displace this muck, before you start make sure you're using the right size of bit.

from what i can remember from my days as a citroen mechanic,the spheres had there pressure ratings stamped on them,gs/a fronts should have 50 or 55 stamped on the top and the rears have 40 stamped on them.i have fitted different spheres from other models before to improve the handling on BXs before.there are still people out ther who still...

I have recently aquired a citroen gs and it needs new rear spheres. The previous owner who said that BX 14 spheres are good for the rear of the car but i dont know about the front. make sure it goes into gear easily also if the pedal is heavy its a sign its worn and could break the clutch pedal clip, a pig of a job to change. probably need doing if it hasn't been done already at that sort of miles.

Its a common fault, fixes include welded repairs and additional support brackets on the Right hand side, when removing pedal box the clutch cable is a bit of a brute to refit.

I've noticed the accelerator pedal on my BX TZD has some sideways movement preventing the pedal bottoming out. The bracket holding the pedal pivot appears to be damaged. Can anyone please help with any tips in replacing the bracket or is it fairly straight forward.

Ok I admit to putting both my motors back together without the filters in the turbo lines, One was lost and the other one flew away, no problems so far.50k on one motor and 12 k on the other since losing the filters, I was told at the dealer that they come with the steel oil pipe if I really wanted one.

I have just been to try to get a new one of these after standing on mine , and according to the parts guy they are no longer available, and were not fitted to later models as after a high mileage they can block and cut off oil supply to the turbo (maybe if you never change the oil...) Apparently I should just assemble without it.

I have another problem with it! :(
The engine sounds similar to the PAS relief valve when you have the steering on full lock.
If this was stuck open I would have no PAS right?? or is this another 'feature' of the TU series engine???

When you visit the breakers for your Volcane axle get the shocks too. I believe they are shorter as well as being stiffer so you may kill two birds, AFAIK the Volcane rides lower than standard so will it need lowering more?

The rear spheres do not have any influence on the height - only on ride softness.
The ticking you mention ? - that should be no more frequent than approx 30sec's interval. Faster ticking (i.e. near constant) is a pointer to a flat main accumulator sphere - the one located down on front of engine block.
A flat main accu could well give problems...

Well it did after about a while. I have a 1.9 TD hatchback on an R plate and the back takes ages to come up. I think its the rear spheres but im not sure... any ideas.

Does anyone know off-hand where the Xantia HDi oil level switch is? My warning light has started to develop a mind of its own in the cold weather, sometimes flashing at startup and sometimes not (despite there being plenty of oil) so I presume that either the switch is dicky or there's a loose wire.

Well, remove strut, dismantle the spring, dismantle the strut to get the shock out. Refitting is reverse of removal. Repeat other side. I'd be thinking along the lines of 4 hours, if nothing goes wrong (chance of that??). £200 ball park figure?

Well i ask u if i have gone mad because i have spent lots of money on my car. Since i bought my Car which is a Citroen ZX Aura TD 1993 reg at the time it had done 106,000 miles bought it for £900 cash. had the car now 16 months has now done 126,000 miles.

Should just be the ignition switch/electric barrel. I also believe it is possible to retain the original key lock barrel too. So not a major issue.
If you do have to change the key lock part then you can transfer the plip to the new key and keep the 'door' key with it on a standard ring.
Make sure you have the radio code, they will probably...

I need to replace the backbox on my zx (something inside it has collapsed and is rattling about).
Does anyone happen to know of the bore size of the pipe going from the centre silencer to the backbox? I'd go out and measure it but it's a bit dark and wet outside right now lol.
