Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

You could try.
The near future will force you to do something, as the cable clip at he pedal dead sure will snap.
It is very rare these days to find the clutch itself at fault. The common first symptom is exactly as you have it now.
The cause is either a dry cable or the release bearing has grooved into the release plate - which means clutch...

Donno on these separate PAS pumps.
But I think it's more or less a question of using your fantasy.
You must find a way bleeding the system from a low point. Then top up with clean (correct !) fluid. I'm unsure if you can use any common automobile cleaner, like petrol, thinner or white spirit. My concern is the seals.

I have changed a subframe before on a BX, its not nearly as bad as it first looks, given the importance of steering geometry and overall symmetry of the front end I would not hesitate to replace it, read carefully through the job in the book of fiction and find one would be my recommendation, AFAIK there are only two types 1.4s and the others....

mine is doing this, it sounds worse than a slipping belt, but when you look at it the belt moves in time with all the other pulleys just not the idler. Having heard that as a price it doesnt sound good, though it might be worth asking the local motor factor. The solution to mine was a huge amount of WD40 down the back of the pulley but it only...

The idler (not the tensioner) for the belt driving the air con pump and alternator on my BX turbo diesel has become very noisy and needs to be replaced.
I've just been to the local Cit dealer and the replacement is over £100!

Of the psa ones it has to be old 1.9 ally lump 16v, not that im biased :) 160bhp as standard. The 2 litre as in the zx would have more if you removed the cat but its iron so heavier. Problem is people have cottoned onto bx 16v's being the same as 405 mi16's now and the engines are going for quite a lot on ebay. The only other issue with the 1.9 is...

The ones you describe sound the same as the ones we used on a BX16V when we redid it.
I think you'll find the upper section of the thread is almost like a wood screw and I imagine it's there as part of the stretching procedure.

Guys, can you help my Xantia 1.9TD(r) has got the judders at mid revs.
When i excelerate at low ish revs the gear stick & brake peddle judder. this goes away as i reach about 3k rpm.
Thought it was the clutch but it doesnt do it when i 1st start off and lift the clutch, only when you reach about 2k -3k rpm.

On most of the hatchbacks the alarm unit which makes that lovely sound, is positioned under the n/s front wing right where the wing indicator lens is. To remove scratches from an alloy surface, you have to do a filling and then polishing.
Donno if such a repair is possible to do lasting as DIY. I doubt as the wheel is opposed to large forces and harsh environment.

The pollen filter filters both fresh and recycled air, so I'ts being used all the time. A Citroen guy once told me it's important to change them as recommended (anually) as blocked filters will put a strain on the blower.
Can't help with the keys, I'd be interested to know too.

sort the air intake! Standard air filters are pretty much useless. Either a straight swap for a K&N panel would be good, or an induction kit.
If you start getting decent power out of the lump you'll find you kill engine mount rubbers pretty quick so well worth going for a polly bush (£40 ish but then your not having to change every 10,000 miles!...

I had a similar sensation in my BX when rear arm bearings were worn - effectively giving me a little 'feature' called rear wheel steering (which the BX was not supposed to have). Its worth checking the alignment of the rear wheels - look from the rear of car and if wheels are leaning towards each other e.g /---\ then your rear arms probably need...

At first i put it down to the condition of the roads, but it has become more pronounced.
Whilst travelling in a straight line, if u need to make a slight turn, the wheel has to be turned more than previously normal to get a reasonable ouput, only a few degrees.

I hate doing this job. I've done it a few times before on previous AXs but I must do it for my latest. I wish I wasn't so tight sometimes so I could take it the garage!!

Oooer they do look nice in that shade of red - but the TXD I owned like that had a rather nastier shade of dark orange underneath. Hope it's as good as it looks! Now all you need are the TZD toys - which Citroen used to charge an outrageous extra grand for.....

After suffering withdrawal symptoms for too long, a BX is now gracing Chateau Bamber. It's a K plate 19TXD with 142000 on the clock, nice straight panels and a mint interior. thats new - a xantia with rear handbreaks. take it back and tell them the handbrake sets the FRONT wheels

Took my Xantia in for it's MOT and it failed due to the handbrake applying more than 50% difference in braking forces between the rear wheels (20% braking force to the rear right and 80% to the rear left, or there abouts)
How do I fix this problem??

The main purpose of fitting a modified cam is to get more mixture into the cylinders - this can be done more easily by upping the turbo boost or cooling the charge air, on a TD (although if you want to get the absolute maximum out of the engine - you might want to try an uppgraded cam together with other mods).

I have found a cheap estate (with longish MoT) and alledgedly good nick, with faulty suspension.
The seller claims that, and I quote,
1 the rear nearside suspension unit has dumped all its fluid on the ground and 2 it is driveable because our mechanic has wedged it up and 3 front suspension nearside hose needs replacing

No - the first 2 digits (20 or 16) refer to the diameter of the cell, and the last 2 digits (32 or 20) refer to the depth (or thickness) of the cell. So if the original is a CR-2032 only a CR-2032 will properly replace it.

The N12121 is an HDi fuel filter for use with the Bosch System. If this is not correct it sounds like the car is fitted with the Siemens Tecafiltre system, this uses a different filter, the correct GSF ref for the latter filter is N12121C.

It should be 8mm, the same as the size they use on timing belt tensioners, but I found when I did mine that a 12 shifter worked so much better. The reason is that the amount of tension on that spring makes it pretty hard to move without twisting the square bar unless of course you can find an 8mm square attached to a 1/2 drive like a socket.

the haynes joke-book says to relieve the (auto) tensioner using a square key (or words to that effect) before locking in place with a 4mm rod. It doesnt, however, say what size the square hole is! anyone help or do i have to take the car apart to find out I've got the wrong tool?

Give Citroen a call. They will be happy to inform you the cost.
Then call a quick fitter to compare.
Citroen (or any car make) do not make their own clutches. These are delivered by specialist makers like Valeo, LUK, Borg etc. Same clutches are available from any aftermarket dealer.

The way I did mine was to leave the original outer sheath in place, pull the old inner cable out of it, then just slide the new inner cable into it. As long as the new inner cable moves freely it should be ok.
Bit of a bodge perhaps but it saved a lot of time, and 4 years later it still works fine.

Why not sit in it & use the plip to lock & lock again.Then,if it has got dead locks,you wont be able to open the door.

Quickie. Any one know if dead locks are fitted to the Mk1 Xsara Just lubed the door locks and noticed that if I first lock the car on the door lock then turn the key a little more it seems to lock again. This can also be done on the plip. Lock then press lock again and the locks can be heared to, well lock again. Your thoughts.

I find it helpful to occasionally fill my resevoir with a mixture of water and screenwash,otherwise it just stops coming out when I press the switch

Do you mean a MAF? It's a Mass Airflow Sensor, measuring the ammount of air being sucked in so the engine knows how much fuel to juice in. Find the air filter housing and it'll be attached to the rear of that with a connector on the rear.

my old ax's went, too much jumping over humps down country water got in and that was the end of that i just replaced the whole rear beam alot less hassle i think you will prob need to replace bushes anyway four bolts under rear seat hold it on and the brakes, not a job for an amateur thou got a mechanic to do it for me.

Dunno..
But when swopping the front seats on a ZX always undo the back bolts from the floor first, coz if the front plastic base comes undone on the front ones, you can't get the bolt out untill you get the seat out altogether, and cant slide the seat far enough foreword to get at the rear bolts either!.. Dohh..
