Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The drier bottle is the unit that the sight glass is attatched to. It's about the size of a slighlty tall, thin can of cola. If the liquid is looking milky then you almost certainly have moisture in the system, which will be causing the problems and lack of performance.

Mine seems to be doing the same thing (see post 'Injector pump microswitch' on the Citroen forum) but only once the car has been sat in the sun all day. First thing in the morning it seems to work properly. My rev counter doesn't work at all, so that might not be your problem, but then again mine doesn't have an ECU.

OK so I've saved my dosh and got a really good local guy out to regas today, He vacced it out, flushed with nitrogen, tested for leaks using, I believe the nitrogen and when he was satisfied that there were no leaks after an hour or so he added new lubricant and regassed. So far so Good.

I've never seen inside a 405 system so I can't really comment apart from saying that the system in a BX isn't common even throughout its range. A 16V has a different condensor than say a TZi; the TZi has a much larger surface area and the 8 vlave systems seem more efficient than the 16V one because of it.

I don't know why you would need to fit new relays as you describe. The wiring from the ignition switch to the fan controls I have heard can be a problem due to the current drawn and this is usually cured by tapping power from the cigarette lighter, but if it's working, we'll leave that one alone.

He didn't have some info with a typo on it by any chance?
I could believe 850 but 580 is such an odd amount and most car air/cons are in the 850 range.

If it was an R-12 system and the amount was shown on the plate, you can work on that less 10% when converted to R134a.
On BXs they took 1KG or 1000grms, as a result the charge was around the 800/900 range.

Can you hear the compressor cut in?
When you say fan, do you mean inside fan or outside?
If it's the outside, possibly short of gas. Inside, look for a fuse followed by a dodgy electrical connection or switch.

What do you mean it regulates the temp up & down? Heater takes it up, air/con takes it down.
Ambient temperature plays an important role in allowing the air/con to come in so as an experiment, why not try running the haeter for say 5 minutes and then select a fairly cold temp to see if that will trigger the sensors.

Hi, I recently bought a 2003 Clio dci80 with climate control. However the aircon side doesn't work. It regulates the temp inside up and down on it's own happyly but the A/C doesn't kick in. Recharging should only be done when your air con system is low on gas, or if it works poorly, if there are no leaks, no gas can escape and it shouldn't need any maintenance.

Yup mines the same, but I think it is just coincidence, rev counter sensor goes open circuit once it is warmed up.
The air con problem is possibly related to the cooling fan problems covered in other threads, to check the fans are working, turn ignition on and then disconnect the brown sensor on the thermostat housing,...

The compressor is under the bonnet.Not sure about the noise.
A/CON usally needs a regass every 3-5 yrs.I had mine done 3 yrs ago now,but it still works 100%.I presume you would have a pollen/cabin filter?Has that ever been changed?It needs replacing at every service.It can become quite blocked up,reducing a/c output.Mine usally tends to not work...

Kowalski, if you put the suspension on high and look in through the drivers side wheel arch, you will be able to see the pulley on the end of the compressor, there is a clutch unit on it so if the centre is stationary the compressor is not running, check the wiring to the clutch (connector at Opp end of compressor), as far as I know the clutch is...

As an addition to the hose supplies, here's the fittings crimper.
There are hydraulic as well as hand operated ones here.
For the DIYer I'd expect the hand one would be a goer.

FWIW, buying one of these as an investment particularly if a club were to do it, is more practical than it may at first seem. I know a guy over here...

Just above the ashtray you'll see some horizontal slots covering an area the size of a small coin. Shine a torch in there and you'll see a small fan that should spin when the engine is running. I think this might be what you're looking for. The whole thing is in a green unit that looks as though it can be pulled down if you remove the ashtray....

If it has been sitting for years unused then the gas has more than likely escaped through dried up seals. It may work if the system is recharged, it all depends on how the seals are really.

When i turn the A/C on in my XM, nothing happens, i've had a look under the bonnet, and the electronic clutch isn't moving at all when you press the button. Could this be just because it's been sitting for a few years and needs a recharge? or is it likely to be more serious?

Air/con is operated by a compressor and is refrigerated. The heater will operate like any normal heater. Usually if a car has basic air/con, it will have a blue section on the heat control. The knob needs to be pointing at this for the air/con to work. It usually also has a seperate control for the temp of the air/con beit a knob or in...

If you had air/con it would blow it off in seconds.
If not or if you turn the demisters on and it still fogs, chances are you could have a leak starting in the heater matrix.

As far as I understand, the newer AC installations are completely different to the older ones. Much higher pressure is involved, so the entire system would have to be changed.

I would welcome some information on the new type of refrigerant and what if any components might need to be changed from the current set up I have on my 92 BX 1.7TZD.
The compressor is u/s so that would be an initial invetsment but i believe that the need stuff runs at a much higher pressure so what else might need to be changed to get the aircon...

Providing both fans are working correctly and not intermittently, it would be fair to expect either your system is low in gas and as a result the LP side is cutting it out prior to it going into vacuum or you have a problem with some form of contamination (moisture or scale) that has partially clogged the receiver/dryer and is causing it to shut...

posting this for a mate , he has a Megane TD 1998 and the heater has stopped working.The air-con works fine but no heat is coming from the heater.

This reminds me of a question an apprentice fridge mechanic once asked a group of tradesmen.
At the Antarctica, what temperatures would the fridge run at? Would they cut in and out at lower temps than if they were in say Australia?

if its any help i got my done at dmr air con off digbeth rd(?) on the city centre. They charged £65 for a check, vacuum and regass, and also checked for any leaks (it says it on the invoice!).
Seemed professional to me, i can give phone details if you want. i was recommended them by the local cit specialist in brum.

If it's the same ECU as the Mk2 Xantia (anyone?) then yep the blower speed will go up and down depending on the temperature difference between the inside of the car and the temp setting. In fact it seems to have 2 or 3 more automatic speed settings than the manual controls. It also seems to factor in the engine temperature so won't wind up...

The new drop in gases look useful but there is no cause for alarm on the BX front. You'll need to change the gas adaptors anyway and the drier is a service consumable. That leaves the compressor and Sanken reckon that you don't need to touch that. Opinions are divided about the O rings but they are not expensive. Bx scrapper with...

Most if not all aircon / climate control systems have a safety pressure valve to stop the compressor working if the system is low on gas.
I would have the gas pressure / level checked first.

Suction side runs about 0 - 10 psi when operating but gets a fair bit higher when stopped.
Discharge side can be anything up to approx 200 psi but be warned, if you start pumping straight air into it, you may also pump a heap of moisture/condensation in also and create more problems than you solve.

The pipe from the compressor to condensor was just a smidge short of ?200!!! even the guys in the spares dept were very apologetic.

Could be a problem with the bitron control box or it's temperature sensor (brown connector, the ecu one is green). If you unplug the brown sensor the cooling fans should come on at full speed. I think the control box can shut the system down if it thinks there is a overheating condition.

The temperature sensor is fitted behind the alarm LED, air is drawn over it by way of a small fan which may be the noise you can hear in the 'middle panel'. Get this sorted out first, the small fan is well known for causing problems such as being noisy. If air is not being drawn over the sensor then the aircon cannot function reliably.

Yes it has a fan, but it's not easy to get at. If you listen by its intake slots you will hear it running. If you can hear it it's working so best left alone. All it needs is a blast of aerosol air duster down the slot periodically to blow the dust off the temp sensor.
